Post subject:  I finally did it-College

I am done with my last school year in KY and now waiting on the actual diploma. I have been going to that school since I started collecting Ids in 2005 which I probably should have signed up then instead in 2006 but anyway I have been going to college off and on since 2001 which I have difficult years and so far have finally overcame some hurdles but now I have to work on getting a job and be self sufficient and well unforauntly I will have to wait to buy more LDs or anything else.

I love this place and will still be here.

Definitely a big congrats.

It's always hard getting through it all and figuring out what one wants to do for a career. Eventually, we all fall into some line of work that fate brings us too. :)

It took you 17 years to get an undergrad? I award you the Van Wilder, Party Liason award. Congratulations.

Congrats! It took many years for me to graduate too. It’s not easy to go to college and finish in 4 years unless you have rich parents paying for everything. I just checked the other day, state schools are around $35k/year and private ones are in $70k/year. With the work load, it is nearly impossible to work and study at the same time. And even if you managed to do both, more than likely you won’t make enough to pay for your living and studies.

Thank God studying is basically for free here in Germany.

I work for the American arm of an Austrian engineering company and I’m reminded of this every day. Americans aren’t just dumb, the are legislatively committed to staying that way. If college costs more than the average wage in the US and is free in Germany (even to Americans), year after year after year, how the hell is that not going to manifest itself in very visable ways? Compare like four generations of a family who went to college to another family that worked 65 hours a week at three jobs instead of seeing their kids...it’s just going to get exponentially worse every generation...and clearly has.

I wish Americans could drive like Germans too. That’s the end of my rant. Thanks for listening. :)

Congratulations! We should always keep challenging ourselves and see how far we can go. The way I see it doesn't matter how long it takes so long as you get there eventually so I can certainly relate. I meant to go to university a couple of years ago but I just didn't know for certain what I wanted to do yet, rushing a decision like that just never ends well. Still I'm finally going in a few months so that's something to look forward to.

I had about a decade break between high school and college. Best decision I ever made.

Nothings free, Germans just pay through higher income taxes. If you can hustle in America, put yourself through Uni and take out a government loan you can have a far better standard of living as a professional in America. You can have a big house, a couple of big cars, boats, all the toys you want. Americans just have to want it more. The German model just breeds laziness and mediocrity where at the top of your profession you'll probably live in modest townhouse, drive a sensible car and take one holiday every two years. You might have a hobby too.

You have no idea what you’re talking about. I live in Michigan. Taxes are so low the roads are falling apart, the schools are broke, everyone is in debt, 1/4 of the country is on food stamps, Flint *still* doesn’t have clean water. Clean friggn water for Pete’s sake. What good is extra money in your pocket if your country is decending into a nativist 3rd word hell hole?
