2002 Panasonics were much lower quality (JVC designs, no longer made in Japan). Getting 8000 hours might be a stroke of luck ;)

2002 Panasonics are JVC's ? i thought late JVC S-vhs were better than Panasonics; so same crap different shell

agree that marketing 8.000 hours of drum use means its heads , plastic pieces and mechanics are made of cheap can

The fact that it specifically states that would probably mean a lot. 8000 hours is nearly a solid year of 24 hour use. I’m assuming it has a timer and a warrentee for that long and that would be impressive. Most consumer electronics are written off by their makers after 30-90 days, maybe a year, even if they sat in the box the whole time.

I have had no issues with my JVC S3600U and I've watched a lot of tapes on it. Honestly I like it enough that I'd get it fixed or try to fix it myself if it happens after the last places here willing to repair VCRs shutter up.

I have a JVC branded VCR/DVD-R and it’s incredible. I don’t use it a lot so I don’t know if it breaks easy but the performance is terrific and it has to be getting pretty old by now.

I picked up a JVC DR-MV150B cheap recently and I am impressed that it basically plays everything under the sun except SACD and all the outputs (including HDMI) work with the VCR portion. So there has to be some kind of internal scaling going on. Overall, it's a pretty nice player. I didn't particularly have a use for it so I gave it to my older brother who will put all kinds of hours on it and run it into the ground eventually. At least it will die being used, heh.

Yeah. If you run a crappy LD player into mine it makes it into an Elite.

That sounds like a joke, and it is, but it’s also sort of not. It will make a 201 have the “look” of a 99 (if not the actual quality) and it outputs...I want to say 480p over HDMI. The DVDs it makes aren’t as good as it’s live output.

These are some LD recordings I’ve made with it:

and i dont see any greatness in announcing an 8.000 hours death when there are Panasonics from 1992 (i have one nv-j45) with maybe 25.000 hours on board and no one repairment needed in its whole 27 years old, still play perfectly waiting for another 8.000 hour tour

365 days X one movie (2 hours)day = 730 -Maybe some days you dont use or use 3 hors.

730 hours a year X 10 years = 7.300 hours

No way man......we are trying to find models that let us get old with them

It's a number that sounds great to the average consumer.
