i pulled my Pioneer CLD-900 out of storage the other day to try and play some discs, and it's working fine but i have one disc that isn't playing right, wondering if there's anything i can do to fix it. the disc in question will play fine to start off, but a few chapters in this black line will appear in the middle of the picture, almost like a tracking problem you'd see at the bottom of VHS pictures but instead it's in the middle of the picture... after a minute the picture quality degrades more and more until it starts to skip frames, then it starts to skip backwards and even play backwards. i don't know if the disc is scratched or what (it looks flawless)... the other side of the disc plays fine and so do other discs i have so i guess this particular side is maybe just degraded? i don't know much about laserdiscs so i just wanted to see what you all thought. thanks

Is it by any chance a CAV disc that's causing the problem? If so then it could be an alignment issue. My first player would sometimes suffer from this when it reached the end of a CAV side.

yeah it's a CAV disc but the other CAV discs work fine

is that something i might be able to do if i get a service manual?

The CLD-900 is a very complex and early player it has the swing belt to move the cd spindle into place as it has 2 spindles.. Its a real nitemare as the player has to stand up on its one side and many boards swinged open from the Bottom.
