Hi
I recently bought a CC decoder but I’m having some trouble with it.
It displays most of the closed captions fine but when a sentence starts at the far left, the line is all scrambled (see picture).

Any help would be great!!

LD-player: PIONEER CLD-1850
CC-decoder: FUTEK video caption adapter FA-400
TV: LG 42LE5300

Have you tried connecting this decoder to another television? The problem may lie in the sync separator in your TV, & that is a way to check. Alternatively, if there is an adjustment to change the background black level, try making it less black. The cut-in of the decoder into the video may be at the wrong level, confusing the circuitry which looks for "blacker than black".

It is possible to remove the black background, but the problem still remains (picture). I also tried some other options available in the decoder-menu, but without results.
I only have one television, so it will be dificult to connect it to another one.

You don't have an oscilloscope, by any chance? That would provide a look at the waveform, which is what is really required.

No, I haven't got one.

It seems I'll have to find another television and connect the decoder with that one. I'll see how that works out.

Is there any option to move the left-hand edge of the captions away from the left-hand edge of the picture, either by changing the width or by shifting the whole caption block? I am still convinced that the punch-in of the caption must be interfering with horizontal synchronization in some way.

No, unfortunately there is no such option. I've uploaded a picture from the available menu options.
I've tried many option combinations in the menu, nothing seems to work.

I also tried connecting the decoder to another television, but the problem was still the same.

So, I kind of ran out of options.

The last option is fuzzy, it says: POSITION: UP DOWN

Frankly, I think the decoder is defective. You should complain to the manufacturer, or wherever you bought it from, & see if they will give you a replacement.
