Hi everyone, my first post here. Am about to buy an original 1980 Pioneer VP-1000 player. But from further research, it sounds like there can be issues playing discs which have "CX," which appear to make up a large amount of all discs available. I saw that Pioneer had a external device to fix this issue, but some diligent search on thay end shows none whatsoever available whatsoever.

So my question is, can a 1980 VP-1000 play CX discs with an acceptable level of audio distortion, where you can enjoy the movie, or will the sounds simply be too messed up to be able to appreciate without and external (not on the market) box?

Playback of discs without the CX decoder will be fine. It's like playing a tape encoded with Dolby B NR on a deck without Dolby B NR. The ONLY issue you will have is on AC-3 discs which will just play noise on the R/2 channel. Simply switch the channel off.
