I'm working on a DVL-S9 which is the same as a DVL-700. DVD is not working, the laserunit will not come out of the turning mechanism. I've replaced it with a working one from a 909 but it still will not come out of the turning mechanism. Does anybody have an idea what could be the problem?

Do you mean H9? There's an LD-S9 with no DVD, and a DV-S9 that's just a dvd player.

In any case I wouldn't bother too much with using a DVL for DVD playback, they're very early DVD units with the chroma bug and it's best IMO to not waste the spindle wear on them when pure DVD players are very cheap...

The cable from the mainboard to the turn unit goes bad sometime and Pioneer no longer stocks replacements in the US. Other issue would be the turn switch. Try playing a DVD and see if that works.

It's the DVL-9 which is the same as the DVL-700. NO DVD will play as the mechanism will turn but the laser unit just will not come out of it. It stays in the turning mechanism. If you manually remove it, it still will not play or move along the rail. It is not the step motor as I already tried a different laser unit. I have TWO DVL-9 with that same fault.
