Post subject: [DVL-909] Scart socket? Posted: 01 Sep 2017, 13:37 |

I have no manual for my DVL-909 player. I wonder if scart socket on european DVL-909 is a full 21 pin connection for composite, S-video and RGB? I checked Laserdiscarcive but there isn't much info about scart being a full 21 pin?
I bought a new LED flatscreen tv Grundig which have a scart socket incorporated with S-video and Component. Grundig seems to be the only manufacturer who has S-VIDEO on their tv's. If you are in the market buying a new tv and don't have a scaler with multi connections Grundig tv's with S-video is the only brand to buy connecting your LD player. This tv is only for the european market using scart socket.
I find it very strange why manufacturers ditched the S-video connection on most tv's and the worst kind connector offered is composite.

Hey Lons_vex.
The Grundig tv is my first Voll-HD 1080P flatscreen tv with new technology that I own. Until recently I have only used CRT tv's.
I am not that impressed with the pic quality on my Grundig tv, I bought it merely for the S-video/Component scart connection. Honestly I hate these new type technology tv's with smart functions and approval for different decoders for channel subscriptions. They are difficult and way to complicated to set the channels because channel search for digital and analog channels is not the same compared to CRT tv's channel search. I love old skool tv technology for it's simplicity.
I had two CRT tv's and one of them recently decided to retire, I couldn't fire it up anymore so it had to go to recycling. I still have my 2nd CRT tv operating/living on borrowed time! When this CRT decides to go to hell I have to get another tv.
How has the reliability for Grundig LED tv been? Any problems with Grundig or is it still German HQ throughout components and build quality? When my 2nd CRT decides to retire I will have to get another TV with scart using S-video so I can hook up all my gear using S-video connection.
I assume you live in Germany? Do you know if TeleFunken still use S-video in their scart?
Back in the days all manufacturers had scart sockets with full 21 pin connection covering S-video, RGB and composite. Can someone confirm if DVL-909 have or doesn't have the full 21 pin scart?
Thanks

joey-buttafuoco you have to understand one thing, which is very important: GRUNDIG and Telefunken, probably as well as most other brand names are just names these days. The companies they once were and quality they represented is long gone. Grundig is owned by a Turk these days, and I assume everything is "Made in China" about all Grundig TV's these days.
For Telefunken and Blaupunkt its even worse. They are brand names available for sale against money. So if a supermarket chain buys 10,000 cheap LCD TV's from china, they pay a certain amount to the name owner, and they are allowed to stick "TELEFUNKEN" onto those cheap chinese crap TV's. It is sad, but that is how it works today.
I think only LOEWE is still operational, but they were close to bankruptcy at some point and some foreign money went into the company, don't know if this lowered the quality. I never owned any of their products.
Not sure if METZ is still alive, I read about them closing down too.
I personally fear, that there is no quality manufacturer left on the market. Everything is the same sauce of crap. Cheap s**t, that is designed to malfunction once the warranty period is over. Very sad.
And mostly because of one reason: It has to be cheap. The consumer only buys cheap. My dad's 55" was 599 €. What can you expect for that kinda money... My Pioneer Kuro Plasma retailed for 4000 €. And the difference in quality is obvious.

hey guys.
thanks for your input.
it's sad news to read that former solid brands known for HQ are just average names nowadays that a greedy company could buy for top $$$ then slap the same exclusive name on a cheap China made tv then fooling buyers! Greedy companies cheating customers with exclusivity and top $$$ price is really bad when customers buy electronics they think is high end.
My Grundig is made in europe, must be turkish made.
I can toggle between settings on my tv between S-video, component and composite as I have these 3 units connected: Dvd player, VHS player and my LD player are connected to a Monster 21 pin Scart adapter with 3x inputs for 3 different units. My DVL-909 can't handle S-video through scart socket, I received static black n white picture watching laserdisc. Looks like scart only handles RGB and Composite?

the DVL-919 seems to only have composite on scart when I look into manuals on this forum, it's probably the same for my DVL-909? the DVL-919 manual says scart socket is a full 21 pin but there is no info about Y/C or RGB being incorporated in this scart?
