Hi all,
I joined LDDb as I'd bought a CLD-D925 with some discs off an ebay seller - looked like the player was well looked after and there was a 'start' of a collection with it. I have been collecting DVD's for many years inspired, as it was, from a VHS collection. I'd always wanted a LD player though and had never gotten round to it.
Sadly, the purchase has gone a little sour...
The LD player was packed OK but only in about a cm of bubble wrap and no real amount of outer packaging (like foam bits) between it and a (makeshift) box. I'm guessing, although there are no outward signs of damage, it's had a jolt or 2 in transit as, although everything powers up ok, neither CD nor LD disc trays will eject. Doesn't sound like any loose parts inside and the motors sound like they are getting the laser out of the way of the tray before it 'tries' to open. No error messages, just the usual 'no disc' -> 'open' -> 'close' appears on the display but the tray doesn't appear.
So, anyone have any ideas of if this is fixable before I open a not as described ticket for a return/refund?
Thanks for any help...
Cheers, Richard

Moved the topic in "technical questions" as it's more consistent with it. Tray not opening points towards a likely mechanical issue (either damaged in transit or else). Sending a player only with bubble wrap was clearly asking for trouble Did you try to unplug power and unscrew the chassis to take a look inside? Some of the plastic pieces lining up the tray slider might have moved? Julien

Thanks and apologies, Julien. No, not taken anything apart yet - if I did, do you have any idea of what I should be looking for? Should it be obvious? Thanks. Richard

I would NEVER take a return after someone was dicking around inside a player I sold even if I packed it wrong. It's a fair point. Looks like my foray into the world of LD lasted, well, no time at all sadly...

Looks like my foray into the world of LD lasted, well, no time at all sadly... That is rather sad, the 925 is a great player & to suffer the fate it looks to have had is so unfortunate. It may be a "simple" fix but, as above, don't mess around (& I really do mean that respectfully) with the guts - it arrived with you not working & inappropriately packed given what you have said here so the sending back option is the best. There are other 925s to be bagged if that is the one you want. I really do hope that you get things sorted out without too much palaver & see you back on here with a player that does as it should from the off. Best of luck. Cheers.

Rein-o is right, you're better off to work things out with the seller first before getting hands on, taking the cover off to examine/diagnose, but let seller know before you do it, anything more then that is more liability.
What does the laser do ? you should see it move back and forth and the whole mechanism lifts up, if it won't raise up and the motor whines it's probably the belt.
If you can make a video to show us and the seller it could help greatly, even with the cover on (might be smarter to show the seller unopened)
Edit: Before anything look at the front panel, see if the display shows "U1" or something similar, I think that player displays error codes.

Thanks to all for your help and suggestions. At the moment, and due to the fact that it's the model I was looking for, a well presented example (other than this issue) and that it's not throwing any error codes, it just won't open the drawer, I am toying with the idea of keeping it. This would allow me to open her up and tinker/take videos of what is happening inside. I could then upload them here for your delight! I will contemplate a little longer over this...

I picked up a CLD-D606 (same mech type) locally that mysteriously started working when I took the top off. krbahr said that was just something that happens... But a shipped player is much more likely to take real damage... I'd bring it up with the seller.

https://1drv.ms/f/s!AoObHSFt7NoYghoMJKNv9sCmjGvjNot sure if this will work but I've uploaded a small vid of it doing what it does... Hopefully you should be able to see the lens assembly seemingly react as it should and then, with the sound up, hear the motor straining to open the drawer.
