SCART is just a European standard to offer multiple signal on a single (and annoying to plug in the back of a screen with limited reach!) connector. Not sure how the screen chooses between Composite and S-Video, but as a LD Player doesn't output RGB it was one of the 2 previously cited. Back in the days when the Comb Filters were pretty poor, S-Video might have been a good idea -- using the LD Player filters. But in today's world with inexpensive electronics components and digital processing, Composite (the single yellow copper cable) should be the way to go. This is anyway as close to the internal LD format as you can get. In the end, try them all and decide for yourself which looks the best on your screen. Make sure to turn all filtering on the screen to off at first (Digital noise reduction/DNR, etc.). Julien

Laszlo, this is only a friendly advice.
There is something you need to know about cables and quality? You get what you pay for! If you buy sämsta sortens lakrits kabel which you always get for free when you buy electronics at your local shop, picture and sound will turn into crap using low grade no name cables.
You'd better buy high end audio/video cables which are shielded and use best components for best results. There's many of them on eBay or at your local hifi shop. You have good stuff from QED, Ixos, AudioQuest etc. etc. If you are into clear details by using good cables, you will notice a cleaner and less noisy picture with better colors on your screen.
same goes for audio cables, you get better audio

forgot to mention, the longer cables you use you need a good HQ cable. try to find a 21 pin full scart with metal housing, buying plastic scarts does not last very long if you remove scart from unit. metal housing scarts are the bomb!

thanks again I would like to first confirm that there is an RGB output on the player. Or if it something I'm imagining.

You are amazing. Thank you for your reply. No RGB. You were so right. I have confused the pioneer with my first CDV-988 from Philips back in 1980´s. So the conclusion is that Composite is the best output from this player? I have tested 3 different scart cables but not composite yet. I want to test the S-video output when I have found a cable that is not 10 meters because that's all I can find.
