I wouldn't be taking parts off a fully functioning player, that just makes another broken player. Any way you could explain to me how to troubleshoot these options or direct me somewhere I could read up on it

phobicpanda wrote: Whenever I play a disc it will hit an area and basically keep looping, but pausing and resuming or fast forwarding seems to make it continue but then it'll randomly do it again later. It did not do it in the same areas on a 2nd viewing and it did it on both sides of the disc.
I don't know much about the insides or parts of an LD player so explanations of where things are etc would be useful. I have a fully functional CLD-59 for parts that I could use if they are compatible as well.
Thanks Most likely a dead spot in the laser movement motor, I'd try replacing the motor.

Another problem I have is (with all 3 of my players) that I seem to be getting a checkerboard effect over S-Video out which I assume just means the cable is bad?

If that looks better use it. Many monitors and processors handle composite better than S-Video. Remember LD is recorded in the composite format so the question is does the player or the monitor/processor do a better job creating the Y/C signal. S-Video is a fancy name for the Y/C signal.
