Here is the tear on the remote power button (if you can see it), does anyone know of a suitable replacement or a donor remote to source the button?

That strip should be in between the top lid and the front panel. Just toss it. When you close the player press play, that should work. Enjoy that player, its a good one and I'm surprised that it didn't freeze up from the old grease. And you are way way too picky about the power button that has a little split. |

i understand you fully, OP. some of us are rather picky about the cosmetic condition of our A/V gear, even 30/40 year old models of players based around a long-obsoleted audio/visual format. call it OCD, if you must. anyhow, a couple options for a donor remote, same model, CU-CLD015; https://www.ebay.com/itm/Pioneer-CU-CLD ... Swg8taGS8T https://www.ebay.com/itm/Pioneer-CU-CLD ... SwXYtY3Blz - this is a very similar remote to the CU-CLD008 attached to my CLD-3030. it's easy to dismantle and replace the button matrix pad... |

Thanks rein-o, Glad to know the strip wasn’t preventing anything from hitting or scratching the surface. I’ve read about these doors being seased up as well, but was lucky enough to find this guy. Do you have any ideas on how to get the door to retract or what might be causing it? Neither the eject button on the remote or the player work and pressing play doesnt make the player automatically retract. |

You and I might call it OCD tasuke, but my parents think I have a mental disorder for investing into this format Then again, I have made similar investments... (see photo). As for disassembling the remote, I’ve tried taking apart game controllers before and it’s like trying to put a puzzle box back together Hopefully the buttons don’t all fall out of place or feel loose after taking the remote apart. Do you happen to have any similar videos or references I could refer to?

I had a 3070 that wouldn't load discs. Re-greasing the gears fixed the problem. The hardest part of the repair was getting the mechanism out of the player in its "frozen" state. |

I had to send mine to Grasshopper as he had the jigs to get it back together. I was going to tackle it but didn't have the time when it was an issue and also I'm glad to keep him in business as much as I can. |

Another thing I've experienced with this player. I tried playing a different movie and continuously hear the laser working during playback, but with a different LD in the tray (both '12 size) I don't hear anything. Why might that be? |

That might be the tilt motor, see if the disk that it's making the noise on is slightly warped. It may have some crosstalk effects as well. |

Not to be a pain, but this is my first LD player. Should I just take apart the player, pop the disc in, and see if the disc vibrates while spinning? What steps can I take at home to correct this issue? Also, I thought cross-talk just referred to image/audio sync up on playback? Hope to hear back from you soon! -Mason F. |

These discs are much larger than CDs. I haven't had my player connected in about 8 months now since my move but I sort of remember noise from lets say slipping or just reading the disc. Good luck with LD |

Can you provide an audio clip of the noise? Frankly, we're all just guessing. |

Can you provide an audio clip of the noise? Frankly, we're all just guessing. Sure thing! I've made two videos: 1 with a control disc (Tenchi Muyo!) that operates as normal in the player. https://youtu.be/xBXvHV_tI2M And 2 with the problem disc (Shawshank) with the squeaky laser noise. https://youtu.be/6_HSn-munqI The player also most likely has never been opened, so perhaps it just needs a good cleaning? But if thats the case, why would Shawshank be the only disc with the problem? I also will have to look into why the door won't retract, so I'll be going in there anyway. Also, sorry for my annoying voice. |

I agree it is fine, just enjoy. With CAV one revolution is one set of even/odd scan lines all the way through the disc. For CLV it is continually slowing down as it gets closer to the end and since there is a ever changing number of odd/even scan line sets per revolution it will be noisier. |

Welp, I've moved on to seeing what might be wrong with the tray not retracting in. Does anyone know how to remove a tray from a CLD-3070? Please respond soon.

UPDATE: I haven't removed the tray, but it looks like everything underneath is looking fine. Maybe this might be an electronic issue?

Wow, you took the front panel off. Those players are I feel the second hardest to work on, if there are others someone please post. I had to take apart a 7820 once to get the cable back on track to move the disc. Very hard, took an entire day. |
