Hi everyone !

After reading through this forum, I finally decided to join ! I'm new to laserdisc collecting, and just started a couple of months ago. Some of the first movies I purchased and watched were NORTH BY NORTHWEST and APOLLO 13. After that....I was HOOKED ! I currently have one LD player , and have another on the way. I have no idea how I managed to escape collecting these over the years ! I worked in a music store back in the 1990's where we even sold them !

Would love any advice you have for a newbie !

Not much of a setup so far. I currently have an old Pioneer LD-V6010A built in 1988....and I have a Pioneer CLD-S201 on the way. One of the problems I have with the 6010A is not being able to switch audio. I recently purchased some discs that have commentary tracks, and have no way to turn that commentary off. Also, I have no remote for the 6010A. Hoping that the CLD-S201 will help with that problem.

Are there any players that you would recommend ? I know that the S201 was kind of an entry level player.

Thanks

I started with a CLD-980 then got a S201 but it I ended up getting rid of both and keeping the CLD-79 which is an Elite player. the S201 is fine though other members know more about players than I do. If you want to play AC-3/ rf and or dts then you would need a higher end one and also a rf demodulator for the discs that are AC-3 encoded.

welcome to the fold. Somewhat like you, I just recently got back into collecting. Over the past few years from time to time I got the itch and started buying stuff here and there, but just recently past month or so hooked everything up. I have a Pioneer DVL-700 that I got rather cheap around 40 bux, because the seller said the DVD wasn't working, which didn't matter to me. I will say ran through a good comb filter I can't tell a difference between that and a $20.00 panasonic ld player I have *shrugs*. As far as tips, I've actually had good luck on eBay, but I work overnights and kind of scour the ending auctions and get lucky alot :)

Welcome! There are some really knowledgeable people on this forum so if you've got any specific questions just feel free to ask and someone will be able to answer for you. There is definitely something special about laserdiscs that just appeals to the collector side of film buffs, it's great.

Welcome.
I'm glad you took the leap and joined. I just noticed your post today. My first bit of advice is to avoid combo players (dvd/laserdisc). I'm sure we will cross paths in the future. Peace.

Thanks everyone ! I know that I should probably ask this in a new thread, but have a problem. I was watching Side 1 of Return Of The Jedi in CAV format; and toward the end of the side, the movie started skipping almost like being in fast forward then stopped. After reading some other posts, sounds like it might be an issue with my player or some kind of warping on the disc. Anyone familiar with this ?
Thanks

i had an issue like this, it was the laser going bad :(

don't toss the disc, i did that, but it was only a 10 dollar disc so i felt lucky i didn't toss a valuable disc.
