Hello, my name is Andy and I live in Wisconsin. I'm sort of embarrassed I joined LDDB about 9 years ago and I had no idea there was an active forum here. Anyway I have a somewhat small collection of 50 LD movies soon to be 52 and 2 players.

Anyway here is my story of Laserdisc. When I was a kid in the early 1990s I noticed the FBI warning on video tapes also mentioned "video discs" I asked my mom if she knew what those were and she said in the mid 80s she was at a friend's house and they had "LaserDisc" which was a record size disc that was shiny like a CD. She had thought the format disappeared shortly after. LD was pretty much forgotten until middle school when I saw a Pioneer LD player up high on a shelf at school. I then searched ebay for LDs and was shcoked to find out they lasted all the way until 2000. I then thought someday I will have a collection. The day would come May 14 2005 when I went with my dad to an all electronics rummage sale. I wandered around and went into the basement of the apartment and there it was, my future LDR-611 labeled "WORKS-$8" So I used the $10 bill I had to purchase it along with the only disc he had I cared about (the CBS/FOX release of "Star Wars") Got it home and plugged it into the cheap Haier brand tube TV we had then and we were shocked to find that a disc from the 80s would be capable of near DVD quality. LDs are few and far between in these parts but I acquire them when I can. I would later purchase the LD-v8000 from a local college for even less than I paid for the RCA. To this day I still use CRT televisions and most recently a 4:3 ratio projector to display my discs. I don't believe in using widescreen TVs or scalers

Good morning whaduzitmatr,

Great introduction and thank you for sharing a little about yourself and your enthusiasm with all things Laserdisc.
Don't worry about not realizing that this site now having a form.

To be honest I think it was around two years before myself realized the same and then I began to submit my posts here.

A pleasure to read from yourself.

Thank you for your contribution here and keep posting.

Sincerest Regards
