I am not exactly new to LDDB, having started an account c. 12 years ago when I was given a Pioneer CLD 1070 player. I've built a collection nearing 300 laserdiscs, the 1070 is still going strong, and I just reactivated my account to participate in the forum!

Last disc watched: ABBA in Concert. Released right after their 1979 tour, still offered good sound and picture (there was a bit of snow/rot over the last minute/end credits but no biggie). The glam rock costumes are a bit hard to take, but their music is still timeless!

Last discs bought: Actually found a used LD shelf at a local Half Price Books, walked away with Ghost (widescreen), Urban Cowboy (widescreen), and Harry Connick Jr.-Singin' & Swingin'.

Of course, I have a large collection of DVDs and Blu-Rays (and am in the process of upgrading to 4K capability). Hard to define why I like the big, shiny platters. When the player starts to spin, it provides a visceral sensation - like an engine taking off, or a time machine. Yes, I'm watching a still functional ABBA concert recording - made when ABBA was still an active group! How cool is that?! 8-)

And of course, the format was way ahead of its time - surround sound, commentaries, special features, chapter skips - we owe it all to these 'dead' discs.

I wish I had a Half Price Books around here. I go to the ones in Ohio whenever I’m there.

Abba is technically active again, btw. They have some touring hologram thing they want to do or something.

Welcome!

The prices at the HPBs here are a little on the higher side where I am, but I do appreciate being able to walk into a store and browse LDs. I'm glad they still carry them!

ABBA is the worst, it's everything bad about Europe in band form. And Europe is all bad, except for England.
