Another title I had to import the LD of because of the US DVD looked like crap was the ADV release of Variable Geo. They must have used a tape master for that because it was just ugly.

You're telling me you actually wanted to watch Variable Geo? Man, I remember talking with an acquaintance after the midnight showing of the second Ghost in the Shell movie, who was describing how he & his friends had been trying to figure out whether they could officially license & release a recently-produced anime series. The only one they could think of that was both short enough & uninteresting enough to be cheap enough was Variable Geo. They happened to mention this to a few people, one of whom worked for ADV, & no more than a few weeks later they heard that ADV had licensed the show. I've got two of the three discs, but only because they came in lots with other things.

Yeah . . . I'm a fighting game fan and a fan service fan, so that one was just perfect for that set of parameters

The art and animation was nice . . . but that's about it!

You've got about 3 hours to bid on this ROTLD LD . . .

http://www.ebay.com/itm/RETURN-LIVING-D ... 19c9a36cfd

And that's one damn good starting price!

Frustrated, got outbid by a bid sniping program after the last second. I find that very frustrating. Bid sniping is one thing, but when somebody uses a program thats BS.

How do you know it was a program and not a real human sniping it?

If it's a human, (s)he's able to time the eBay servers perfectly.... unlikely:

How can I forget?

The Shadow - Only NTSC version of the film in Widescreen (region 1 DVD is P&S). Due to the film being shot spherical, the P&S version has more information on the top and bottom of the screen. The widescreen transfer simulates how the film was shown theatrically and has more information on the left and right sides of the screen.

Yeah, I'm good at sniping, but I'm not THAT good!

Sucks that you weren't able to get that disc, jamisonia. It is becoming hard to come by because of it being the theatrical cut of the movie (same goes for the sequel.)

I forgot about Nineteen Eighty-Four (the one released in 1984). The laserdisc is the theatrical version, with the original bleach bypass processed print and Eurythmics/Muldowney score. The region 1 DVD does not have the bleach bypass technique, so that the color of the film seems over-saturated, but it has the full Muldowney score that the director wanted for the film. The contribution of the Eurythmics was excised out of the score. (The UK DVD has the original theatrical version, though.)

Capricorn One: PSE - has AC3 and is in the theatrical aspect ratio. Both the DVD and blu-ray versions I've seen are P&S with Dolby stereo surround.

I have the Maple Studios release from here in Canada and it is Dolby Digital and the correct aspect ratio.

Here is the link to the Lionsgate US release which also looks to have the Dolby Digital and proper ratio:

is the movie Legend with the Tangarene Dream (I know I misspelled it) on dvd? There are tons of movies not on DVD that never will be. This is pretty sad and not so sad if you think about it. I had a nice copy of Satans Princess. It got cracked shipping it to someone. I was depressed. Is the Betty Page laserdisc on DVD? The right version of Blood and Donuts.

I have had Return of the Living Dead and you are right, the LD is better.
Does anyone know if Heavy Metal on DVD has the original soundtrack?

Legend is on DVD in a very nice "Ultimate Edition" which includes the US Theatrical Cut (with the Tangerine Dream Soundtrack) and the Extended European Cut (with the Jerry Goldsmith Soundtrack.) Ridley Scott provides commentary on one of the cuts (can't remember which one.)

That is cool Didnt know that one :) Shows you how much I pay attention. That would be a movie that could use a good Blue Ray Treatment.

Don't think it's been mentioned yet but A Nightmare On Elm Street 5: The Dream Child is uncut on LD (and VHS) but only the R-rated version made it to DVD. Still not on blu-ray at all yet.
