William Friedkin's Sorcerer laserdisc is letterboxed 1.66:1 with a PCM digital surround track vs. the DVD which is Pan & Scan and 192kbs compressed Dolby 2.0

Walter Hill's Johnny Handsome with Mickey Rourke laserdisc is letterboxed 1.85:1 with PCM digital surround track vs the DVD which is Pan & Scan and 192kbs compressed Dolby 2.0.

The LD of Sorcerer is 1.33 the same as the DVD.

There is a letterboxed LD.

The best looking and sounding version of the orignal theoretical cut of The Phantom Menace which isn't available on DVD or Blu-Ray. Was the theoretical cut of TPM on VHS as well?

Wasn't Top Gun filmed in Academy ratio and the only way to see the academy version is on LD? I just bought this version of Top Gun on LD and I believe it's academy ratio, although the listing here says Pan & Scan.

2.20 70mm and 2.35 35mm according to imdb. I think the best LD to get would be the AC3 version, widescreen of course.

Top Gun was shot in Super35, so it would be possible for the original release to be the full, un-cropped frame, but I've never seen mention if it's a panned and scanned transfer or the full frame.

When the film was issued on LaserDisc in CAV in Japan, there is a sequence at the end of side 4 which shows several shots in the 2.35 image and then in the 1.33 image. From these shots, it is an open matte transfer.

Capricorn One: PSE - has AC3 and is in the theatrical aspect ratio. Both the DVD and blu-ray versions I've seen are P&S with Dolby stereo surround.
Blu ray pan & scan? Wow, that's a shocker.
I still enjoy the 1978 version of Invasion Of the Body Snatchers on LD over the dvd and blu ray. Nighthawks on LD still has the correct soundtrack which I can't believe no one ever comments on.
