Post subject: Missing Sleeves & Missing Discs... Posted: 13 Aug 2012, 18:44 |

Is there a topic yet or section where people can post titles they have that are either missing the sleeve or missing the disc? I have a disc for the Lion King and was wondering if anyone had an extra sleeve for it? Thanks.

I am still looking for some sleeves as replacement for my copies of "Waterwold DTS" and "Armageddon - Criterion Edition". Discs are fine but the Waterworld sleeve was loose on the bottom and barely "fixed" by someone using black tape (ugh!). The Armageddon sleeve is somewhat "glued" together (it's a gatefold) and feels kinda sticky . If ANYONE has some good looking sleeves I'd be just too happy to hear from you...

I have the first disc of In the Line of Fire (1993) [LD 19668]. Seems to have stowed away in the back of an Evil Dead box, I told the seller and he said I could keep it, never knew it was there. If it's of any use to anyone here let me know. Alternatively if anyone can complete my set let me know.

With so many titles worth virtually nothing from a trade perspective the list of available spares (sleeves + jackets) might be longer than you think. Anyone need a copy of Terminator 2, Alien, Speed, Independence Day or Jurassic Park?

Actually you can post a "Cover only" or "Disc only" item in shops, it was an expected feature Julien

I have the cover for Vestron's release of "I Spit on Your Grave." I have the disc too, but it's so defective I'm amazed that it even plays. I deleted it from my LDDb collection for this reason, but I'm on the lookout for a good replacement, even if the jacket is in rough shape. My jacket is in very good condition. STAY AWESOME!

Keep checking eBay. It shouldn't be long before someone puts up a really crappy, creased copy with split sides. Just watch for the words "mint ... OOP."

tomtastic wrote: They problem is the sleeves are harder to get in good condition than the disc. The disc's are protected, the sleeves take all the abuse. They should have printed an extra 30 or 40 percent extra copies of sleeves you could buy as replacements, then there would be more on the secondary market today. I agree getting good sleeves is the tough part. Of course if they had done what you suggest I suspect they would have lost even more money producing LDs with store rooms filled with unsold sleeves. It was tough enough selling Laserdiscs without trying to sell just the sleeves!! Paper/cardboard just doesn't store that well, especially when there is no disc inside to add some strength so it would never have been practical to do that. Also items are only sealed if complete so the storage would have been another issue - nobody wants a new sleeve with rubwear, fading, dirt/dust inside them. A few years ago I bought a new CD from a small independent store selling items for an band. The card sleeve arrived in terrible condition - like it has been rubbed with sandpaper. When I contacted the shop they said that was how they had arrived from the band and said they were all like that. Another band got criticized on a youtube video for issuing a very limited gatefold LP that was absolutely filled with dust and dirt - the guy has to spend ages cleaning the LP it was so grubby. The problem is very few people care about the condition of items these days, including the actual artists selling themselves it seems! I personally am always willing to pay a premium for a truly mint item.

I have found that Japanese releases hold up better because the sleeves are thicker. Also, the colors are more intense. STAY AWESOME!
