We all know that a vast majority of DADC titles have rot so who decided wether a title was to be pressed by them rather than Pioneer ( except for Columbia titles who were mostly pressed by the clowns)?

Do "most" of them really have rot? That would be a lot of rot.

As for who decided, it was probably a matter of capacity. Just because you want to print 80,000 of something doesn't mean there is a factory in the world ready to do it.

I would imagine it would depend on if the studio or releasing company had a contract with a certain pressing plant.

Sony bought Columbia Pictures in 1989 so of course they'd be using Sony's plant after that (if not before as well.)

Here is a comparison of the master ID (sequential number) and the number of rot reports in brackets.

Quality vastly degraded over time, look at the last titles at the end of the list:

only thing i can say is who really cares, it's not like you can't get these films on other formats or LD releases.
like lost highway, you can always get the Japanese release or the DVD.

the rot that bothers me is on the films that have not been re-released and LD or VHS are the only ways to own them.

also most of the silent films are only on LD and there are no DVDs, when they have rot it will be horrible.

Is there any information on what exactly happened in the DADC plant? What manufacturing practices led to the death of these discs? Was the glue a bad mixture? Or did they just not use enough of it? I'm just glad I have an unrotted copy of Heavy Metal, and hopefully one day I can get a good copy of Willow...

Is there anyone on the forum who returned DADC titles shortly after they bought them because of the rot issues?

It just seems incredible that Sony could continue to produce so many defective discs for such a long period of time and get away with it.
I mean laserdiscs were supposed to be for the high end videophile consumer yet these DADC titles were total garbage with zero quality control.
Did no one think to complain?

By way of example even when I started buying LDs in 2006 years after Sony had discontinued production I did email Sony and ask why their discs were so bad.
I got a reply indicating it was a discontinued product so there were no refunds/support so I am interested to know what their reply would have been at the time the discs were still under warranty.
