offered a crazy price and the seller didn't think it would go that high.

I know, ebay hate it just as much as I do, they have it in there agreement and an buyer can get a limited account for offering an offsite sale.
They could actually make it harder to remove the auction, in the swedish auction site which is owned buy ebay. There both the seller and highest bidder have to agree that the auction will be removed. On ebay you can just check that the item was lost or damaged and never hear about it again.
