I think $1000-1200 would take that lot. Anything beyond $1200 would take the players as well. $2 per disc may sound reasonable but over a 1000 titles lot, you can't ask more than $1 a piece.

It's a good way to sell normally worthless old hdds. Who would pay for anything less than a terabyte unless its ssd. Put some content on then you can ask some money. At least he is reasonable with the price.

I have seen a couple but they weren't entirely cheap, pretty much similar to ebay prices. A few years back on a different forum, some guy claimed he bought one from craigslist for $200. He might have been BSing.

Cheap X9 on craigslist? I am with you, lightning chances are higher. Are you looking for one?

What I need is an X0. Alot of my other equipment is black, so i've had the thought in mind of getting one just for the sole purpose of it being BLACK (and HI-VISION of course) ....you know! It would go nicely with everything. I've just kinda put the thought in of wanting one, I would like to aquire one in the future.

Interesting thought if you ever saw anything hi vision releated, in the states in some kind of a swap meet/ rumage sale. Very possible though. Hmm :?

I agree with you. I like the black finish of the X0. It also happens to be the one with best picture quality. I have never seen any X0 on craigslist. Even on ebay, there has been 3 listings in the last 5 years. You can import one from Japan but the shipping is very high. I will let you know if I ever come across any X9 or X0 locally. Time to time they show up on different forums or high end audio auction sites.

perhaps something of an oversimplification; but quality vs quantity

Yeah, it all comes down to how much you want to invest in this hobby. If you got the money to burn and want the best, I can see going all out for an X0 or X9.

I don't live that lavishly so I'll stick with my CLD-97 and Runcos.

As far as CL goes, love LOVE LOVE the service when searching for electronics. Gotten so lucky over the years getting some great deals (my current CLD-97 for only $25, most recently a Runco LJR II for $350, a couple of RARE Super Betamax VCRs for $300, etc.) Just gotta be patient and sometimes willing to travel a bit of a distance (went so far as Connecticut and Washington DC from Philadelphia for a few items!)

I can only wish CL provided the same opportunities over here. Look occasionally but yet to see anything under laserdisc in Perth, no doubt reflecting the lower popularity of CL here and the original markets respectively for LD in the first place. And the next nearest major city (Adelaide) is a two day drive away, Sydney or Melbourne is like driving east to west coast in the USA. Gumtree seems to offer similar or worse value than ebay here, and not a lot to choose from. A CLD-97 or Runco LJR II would not be considered a basic player by anyone I think, and your patience combined with opportunity has paid off well :D

In most cases I'm stuck with the reality of having to import the majority of what I'd want so it's worth the better player vs the cost of shipping ending up being more than the player itself!

I can tell you the quality increase from a $350 CLd-97 to $3500 HLD-X0 isn't 10 times. To be honest, it isn't even two times. You can get to %85-90 percent of LD glory within 3 digit figures. If you want the last %10 increase, 4 digits shouldn't scare you. The decision depends on your financials, how bad your ocd is and many other factors.

Most X9 (and X0) you see are from 1995. %90 of the production for these players occured in 1995. Total production numbers for X0 was 1500, 4500+ for X9. The last batch is from April of 2002 and said to be only a 100 or so units. Last batch for X0 was 1999 and about 50 units. X9 also got the new Pioneer logo on mid2000 and on on.

I have seen some people pay 3 times the money for a late batch unit in the past. It is practically 7 years newer than most and has the new logo. The market is very different now. I don't know if anyone still cares, even the latest built ones are over 10 years old now. 3 years ago, you couldn't dream of finding an X9 for under $2500 even in bad shape, nowadays noone pays more than $2000.

You also won't find many other guy who blew several kilobucks on all of the top end x0, x9, s2 97 etc. players and tell you frankly the improvement is only minimal. Most people will want to justify the cost of their expensive player and get carried away with praising their performance.

THANK YOU for posting this substance.

I never had an X9 or X0 but i have seen a 97 back in the day and have owned a 95, 919, 909, R7G, 1010, 3070, 2080, and some others.
In all honesty i only noticed a small difference in picture quality from one to the next but not a 100% improvement from one to the other
of players.

Keep the LD dream alive and just watch it.

The law of diminishing returns needs to be as well known with AV enthusiasts as economists!

Of the US-NY lot, the 703's the only good deal there, disks aside (and with this lot of players, one shouldn't expect anything that interesting IMO).

All the single-side players there are worth $20/ea tops, except for the NIB 2600. None of them have digital TBC, and the 2600 has a rather crap comb filter circuit - the 2400 is actually a better player IMO, a good choice if you're looking for something all-analog (in which case it *might* be worth $50 to you in really good nick)

The US-LA lot might have some interesting music disks.
