So i bought a collection a while ago which contained this version of live at pompeii which seems to be a promo. Has anyone seen it before? Is the value on it equal, higher or lower than the regular one?

Promos if genuine are usually worth more than regular releases.

Whilst this could be a promo it looks more like someone lost the original jacket and put the disc inside a generic white cover with a logo that would easy to generate on a computer and print or colour copy.

Well I am pretty sure it is legit since I know one more person who owns one with yhe same jacket.

I have seen that several times (and have one) - I think it is just a variant (which is meant to look like a bootleg - no doubt to appeal to hardcore fans).

IIRC there were bootleg lps of various stripes of the soundtrack since this was never officially released on lp.

I just bought a copy today like this. The original owner said it came from the store like that. You are probably right that it is designed to look like a bootleg to appeal to fans.

Should it deserve a separate entry in the database?
The disc labels are strictly identical.

I have this version as well and as far as I can tell it's the same program as the other US version with the printed cover.
Not labeled as a promo unless there was a sticker on the shrink wrap. Test pressings are usually limited to just a handful of copies.

Submitted this version to LDDB 5 years ago and it is still waiting for confirmation.
What do we need to do to properly document this release?

Were these not packed in the white sleeves to shift the PolyGram/Seagram LDs that were still in stock?

It carries the same reference number on the white cover version - 080 731-1

The bit below is from the listing here with the additional information bit posted by Julien.

Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii (1972) 080 731-1
Same contents was re-released under reference ID3850PG after Image Entertainment opposed the PolyGram/Seagram merge in 1998.

But MANY other titles were rebranded without the white cover.

Usually these moves are copyright issues. Got too many discs but couldn't/didn't want to reprint a new cover so... plain white paper it is?

Since it does look different and was sold separately, I'd be willing to create a separate entry for this one: Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii (stamped cover) (1972) [080 731-1]
