Sounds cool and if I had the money/time/space I'd look in to it, but my home theater is set up in my lounge room and I have a family which hate how loud my puny basic home theater is already haha, and also space is limited. Even so though many people have reviewed about the surrounds being quite in active for the most part when it comes to The Shawshank Redemption on blu-ray.com. So its not like something is fundamentally wrong with my set up, although it could do with some improving I'm not doubting that for a second.

Well ALIEN, I'd just lower the front LCR equally down by some many -db and turn the fader/volume up a few +db higher for one film and see how it improves the film atmosphere for the surrounds?

Good idea, can't hurt to try it. Although generally speaking I get good surround sound activity if the source material calls for it. I've been watching the Soaprones on DVD for instance, and all the speakers get utilized for music, sound effects, background noises etc to create a atmosphere that comes full circle. Also I've since made modifications/tweaks in general for the better with the audio settings since I last watched Shawshank Redemption anyway, so maybe that in itself would make a difference too.

Well scratch Mr. Holland's Opus of the list I got the Item and USPS damaged the Disc. This set was one of the ones I really wanted badly

i just want to add to this, it's not USPS that destroyed that disc it was the seller who didn't pack it right

if USPS could do that they would do it to ALL packages, so it shows they aren't that good at destroying stuff.

rein-o there is one thing you don't see in the pic because my phone camera sucks is that there was a good sized dent in the cardboard. I have 2 more packages that I am waiting for one is another laserDisc and one is a Vinyl Record. I Guess we will see when they some in if they are broken also.

I just paid for 21 Laserdiscs off eBay including a Ultraman disc....pics to come.

I bought a couple of new discs last month but the rarest title I got is a German LD released by the German Free University of Berlin's Meteorological department.

The disc was released in 1991 and pressed by Sonopress. It still works flawlessly. It is a CAV encoded disc and includes satellite images of clouds moving and stuff
like that. It was meant to be used as a means of instruction for meteorology students. The official title is METEO DISC (ZEAM/EUMETSAT Meteorologie Freie Universität Berlin).
The sound is analogue btw and the disc is divided into many chapters and before each lesson the disc stops at a certain frame and you can study each satellite image
frame by frame including a commentary to accompany each lesson.

There is no lddb database entry for this disc. I would say it is extremely rare.

My first player was a really old PAL analogue-only machine intended for educational use, which came with some science and maths education discs that used similar technology. You used a plug-in light pen to scan a sheet of bar codes to go to a particular picture / scene, they included multiple choice quizzes. But they were fairly low level - Key Stage 2, which in American terms is I think fifth or sixth grade - and I ended up giving them, and the player and pen, to a suitable school when I got a better player.

Hopefully I'll be picking up some good stuff tomorrow; some classical music and opera, and some Beatles movies and documentaries. They were advertised a couple of weeks ago but I thought they would be too expensive and too much trouble once I factored in transport, but it turns out that the vendor has something else I want which makes it worthwhile going there. I'll post again once I've got them.

Haven't tried playing them yet but they all appear to be in excellent condition, no signs of rot etc.

Cost me £25 (about $41) plus train fare, but I got some other things from the same vendor so I'm not counting that.

later - no problems, all of them are exceptionally clean in fact, but the Pied Piper and Paint! discs are analogue sound only, and my player can't handle analogue-only PAL; Pioneer saved a few pounds on the design by leaving out the components. Oh well, there's a charity shop that seems to be able to sell them, I'll drop them in the next time I'm in the area. A real shame, because Cosgrove Hall were very good for their day, it would have been nice to show that disk to various younger relatives.

Holy crap. Looks like Sharon Stone had a go it with an ice-pick.

I'd be mighty p!ssed off if I had anything like that again in the post.

Us Laserdisc enthusiast's at times wait many weeks, months ''if not years'' to finally get hold of a longed for title.
