A few years ago I bought a batch of laserdiscs and when they arrived I noticed they came in hard plastic shell types cases.

There were even two sizes to accomodate a larger gatefold or 2 LD sleeve release or a single LD:

They had a gap in the opening to allow you to access the jacket:

Now don't for a moment think that I actually liked or recommend these sleeves.
Make no mistake these were definitely made by the devil himself.

Firstly every single LD jacket might have perfect corners because it was contained in these near indestructible hard plastic shells, but the mouth of almost every jacket was practically torn to bits with whoever owned the titles due to tugging them to get them out of the shells which are far too tight. I've never seen jackets so worn in my life.

I suspect these were made for titles to be rented as no sane collector would ever want to use these as they actually damage your jackets instead of protecting them.

Anyone else received laserdiscs with these nightmares?

I have a bunch of those very same sleeves.
They came with used MUSE LD's I bought a long time ago.
The size was perfect for those smallish MUSE box sets like
Basic Instinct and the likes. Can't say any of the jackets I
got in them had any signs of wear. Might be true that yours
were ex-rentals.

These are amazing. Wish I could put my whole collection in them. If yours were destroyed it's simply because the person before you was a moron or they didn't originally live in these jacket size.

My Ransom dts copy arrived in one of those. Both sleeve and jacket in Mint condition. I would not mind getting more of those
