Odd question - I heard in the late 80's the USSR tried to make cloned Laserdisc players - hear anything about those?

Yes. I was issued at the plant in Sverdlovsk -Russia. Also several Ld has been released

What was the situation like in Russia for getting hold of laserdiscs back in its heyday?
According to the database there were a few releases exclusive to Russia.
Did Russia have its own pressing plant or were those produced elsewhere?

I just added to that - turns out one of the players (but not the gas tube one) was made to work!

Hello everyone! I am russian from Ukraine. Nice to meet all fan of laserdisc. I have some laserdiscs with music and player Pioneer CLD-2950. I made some copies of music LD on BLU-RAY just for learning the proscess of fransfering and resroration video. I read a lot of topics about laserdisc tecnology and more. It is interestinf for me and the same time I have a good practice for my english.
