Owning the US Tenchi Universe LD collection, I began wondering what other LD releases (anime or otherwise; anything really) come with collectible cards inside, or any other collectible items for that matter. What experience do y'all have with such bonus items? Anything really special to mention?

I don't remember any collectible cards in any of my LD box sets. I do have Disney's Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty box sets. The Snow White and the Cinderella have the main CAV discs, a making of LD, a book of lithographs and a small book explaining the making of the movie. I did not check Sleeping Beauty; but, I assume it is the same formula as Snow White and Cinderella.

The LD box sets are not like the DVD anime limited edition box sets. In those sets, you frequently get pencil boards and sometimes small pieces of jewelry. Some of the larger DVD box sets include T-shirts and a copy of the DVD.

The only ones off the top of my head are some Japanese releases with phone cards or CD soundtracks.
But not very many considering they are so expensive.

I don't know about cards, but some non-anime Laserdisc box sets includes the movie soundtracks on CD and come with a novel while others might include books, lithographs, pictures and other type of feelies.

Some Japanese anime releases tend to come with phone cards. What extras that are included does vary. I've seen some come with psuedo animation cels, sheets with character sketches, maps, floppy disks (containing image files). Most usually just have the standard liner notes, however.

In the late 80s/early 90s phone cards were a huge thing in Japan. Some LDs come with these.

Meitantei Holmes (Famous Detective Holmes): Memorial Box (1984) [TKLO-50023]

Macross: Super Dimension Fortress: 15 Years Anniversary Memorial Box (1982) [BELL-1036]

I have those two and they each came with a phone card.

Bubblegum Crisis: Complete Collection (1987) [BVLL-539] comes with a small collect of trading cards fitted into a paper sheet on their corners. They looks so dark and glossy you'd swear they were printed in the US and compared to the included art book they seem pretty pointless to me. I'd rather the art book was just thicker. This is a *highly* rated box set and I love it, I just didn't "get" the cards.

We could probably talk bonus items forever. There were so many in Japan.

I have the three Prisoner box sets- the first one has a fold out map of the village and the other two each have an ld sized pamphlet with photos on them.

I also have one of the Japanese releases of 20000 Leagues Under the Sea that has a fold out blueprint for the Nautilus.

The PAL release of Glory had a little pamphlet about the unit that the US release did not have.

How about the Cannibal Ferox Special Edition from Grindhouse with a soundtrack 7" vinyl record and sick bag (yep!) included. That count as collectables?

That doesn’t sound like a Laserdisc.

Have had a few sealed (& opened also) over the years copies of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace PILF-2830 & a few of the sealed ones came with a small poly bag with some rather nice cards enclosed. Not sure of the exact numbers but apparently the first 5000 copies had the cards enclosed though another number I was given was the first 2500 only came with them, can anyone else help with the possible number that came with the cards? It appears that The Phantom Menace was the last big release/pressing in Japan & I was told in the past that at the very least 10,000 copies were pressed & given the numbers that are for sale at any time it must have been a fair number issued, perhaps more than the 10,000 I was quoted many years ago.

Some of the Japanese releases (particularly animation) came with some lovely extras included & often beautifully packaged to boot. Quite a few of the Japanese F1 LDs came with extras - copies of the FIA result sheets - driver art prints & photo prints - large booklets in some & again so well packaged/presented.

Cheers.

Yes but a bit gross perhaps, suited the release though.

Cheers.

Not because of the gore, but because the movie is really bad. :D

All the Pioneer Cinema editions came with two cards. Nothing particularly amazing, but they are nice LDs.

The boxset release of Lodoss Tou Senki (Record of Lodoss War): OAV Box [VILF-150~6] also came with a soundtrack vinyl picture disc.

Pretty cool!

Very very pretty, but somewhat pointless. The audio quality of LD being so vastly beyond scratchy picture discs...

I have a picture disc that doesn't sound bad. I can't remember what it is. I might be the reprint of Mickey's Christmas Carol. I remember it being a little thinner and more flexible than most picture discs.

The Uncluded released their first album as a picture disc and it said "Recorded at 45 RPM for maximum quality" or something to that effect. Pretty funny since it sounded like a 97 year old shellac. :)

I had several copies going through my hands (both sealed and opened) over the past 20 years and I never got any cards with them.

However if you look at this auction, I do see them on this copy:
