Interesting production shot choice for the jp cover! I can think of one slightly more iconic image from that movie!

Recently purchased a few discs from the acclaimed LDDB seller gandjrarities, got a great deal on several LDs including Russ Meyer: The Vixen Collection: Limited Edition [ID3476RM]

Of course I was very satisfied!

I also had this arrive recently from a most courteous seller in Japan:

Got these two in the mail yesterday. Fortunately, both discs don't suffer from rot.

Vampire Princess Miyu TV Integral LD box 1. First anime LD, or LD in general, buy in awhile - from a Salvation Army seller on the bay, interestingly, for a decent price (sick of buy it now speculators that think old anime LD boxes are worth 100s).

Well I'm always open to offers, but then again I'm not going to sell an anime box for 20 bucks.

I paid $10 tho  I certainly hear you on that and totally respect good sellers like yourself that are open to offers - even though these titles are pretty much a few dollars on the JP market, shipping from Japan + fees and hassle makes the average such box from a domestic seller worth at least $40-50, as a guess, to be fair. It's just interesting when someone has such a title up for a BIN of new retail price with no offers accepted on that venue.

Yeah, last year I bought a 3 disc box set from YJ with shipping and fees it was more like 85-95

So feel lucky that you were able to get a box set that cheap and that some sellers are willing to dump their obsolete formats.

Post subject:  Re: What was the last laserdisc you bought?

Low starting bid auctions for anime boxes can end pretty low, and yeah buying from Japan is pretty brutal (I mostly bought from recobanchou and the cheap miracle that was suruga-ya, the latter really spoiled me on getting reasonable deals Japan direct, like a mint set of Oniisama-e for nothing). I really haven't done YJ much, other than for hard to find stuff like a copy of Jin Roh (one of the few "late" LDs worthy of collecting as far as I'm concerned, compared to Hollywood blockbuster garbage), as you mention it gets pricey.

Also interesting is that it's a reasonable theory that much of the stuff like that Miyu box was likely imported back in the day at full price + the usual premium domestic video stores charged for imports (for instance, the attached ad from Laser Perceptions from an old anime magazine), before winding up at Salvation Army. Nearly $4k in 90s bux for the UY box? Please take my money  When I got the Maison Ikkoku box for fifty bucks a few years ago from eBay, I just knew someone probably imported it for thousands back then.

Anyway, sellers like those on here, and some on eBay, who take the time to curate this stuff definitely add value worth paying decently for. Especially for the knowledge that they will properly protect the corners of a heavy box set for shipping, as crushed corners on them are too common from non LD savvy sellers.

Yeah to me, with a few exceptions of anime I really really like and want a specific LD of I only pick up anime LD for cheap, and VHS for cheaper lol. I'd actually get the original Gunbuster on VHS if I saw it for any kind of sane price. Some tosser with the clamshells is asking $75. I probably wouldn't even pay that for the proper dvd set (of which there is an auction with bids at over $100 atm) so I may never own it. If not, no big deal.

Yeah, those US Renditions clamshell VHS releases are cool indeed with titles like Gunbuster and the original Iczer but if you wait you can get them for very little in a regular auction, compared with whatever that $75 person is smoking. But yeah, count me a fellow cheapskate most of the time - I've nabbed some cool stuff over the years by biding my time until stuff surfaces at low opening prices.

I have both Vampire Princess Miyu TV Series Integral Box Sets, and although I do not remember anymore what I exactly paid for them I'm sure they were not cheap back in the day.
So if I was ever going to sell them, and someone offered me $10 for them, or even $50, I'd have more fun ritually burning them or making some kinda fetish destruction video with them
than giving them away at that price. And I have not even watched them yet...

Viking funeral all the way, I agree. I surely would choose Valhalla for my set as well if someone offered to double my money with $20 - it's a nice looking set. It's good that the sellers who just dump decent stuff up for cheap are not really attached to the stuff so it works out well in finding titles a new appreciative home - usually resellers who came across them in some otaku's estate or who knows just looking for a quick "flip".
