Hello!

I thought there was only one of them (silver, confirmed by gorkab) listed as:

Computer Graphics Anthology (1988) [VLI83173~82]

And we just got a new submit for: Computer Graphics Access '89-'92 (1992) [BKS10001~7]

Were they more produced? I can't hardly find anything about them online.

I remember watching a tape of stuff like this back in the early 90's. I think I'm good with just Beast Wars. Got the first LD box before I even had an LD player.

I dread to think how much it'd cost to ship this thing. How much are those things worth anyway? You can never really tell with releases like this. They may be rare but they also don't seem particularly sought-after. Or maybe they are. That's why I want to know!

A seven disc box costs quite a bit to ship. I can’t say how much because I’ve blocked it out every time I’ve done it. To the US... $45-60 probably?

Some design professionals or wannabes like me may pay quite a bit for this but I’d imagine the hardest part would be trying to find copies period at any price.

Yeah depending on how much you buy about 50-100 just on shipping and then the cost of the box itself.

Guess the best I can do is just make some vague (but not too vague) saved search on ebay and forget about it.

My lord, Beast Wars sucks. What a terrible comparison. Why would you bring that up?

“I found a great wildlife LD today.”

“No thanks, I ran over a raccoon on the way to work today, I’m good.”

WTF?

Zeta presenting a more hyperbolic version of my own opinion, but Beast Wars definitely falls outside my field of interest as well - somewhat ironically since I've been big into Transformers since childhood, but BW just wasn't a show that I ever got into, or ever had any interest in.

My fascination in computer animation is focused more on the pre-Toy Story stuff - while I think Toy Story is a terrific film, I think it kind of represent a turning point where computer animation turned from a demo scene thing into a narrative tool, and with it, it started being used more as means to replicate the real world, or some fascimile thereof, which to me is just a bit boring; whereas the computer animation of the past, particularly before the 90s, was restricted through technical limitations to rendering the more abstract, but because of it I think it also has far more artistic merit.

Definitely more than Beast Wars, that's for sure.

I certainly don't think the CG in Beast Wars is all that great or timeless, but I can still appreciate its facial expressions and camera movements, especially from Seasons 2 or 3.

I really don't have fond memories of any other 90's CG (other than stuff like Toy Story), feel free to point out some specific examples if you think I'm really missing out.

If you like Beast Wars for the animation, you should check out ReBoot, it's from the same animation studio.

In the meantime, you can watch this:

If you like Beast Wars, yes, try out Reboot. Also try: glasses!

This stuff is profoundly ugly and cheap looking to me even though the per episode budget was likely more than any anime of the time including the Japan-only hand drawn Beast Wars II and Beast Wars Neo.

All about “could have” didn’t think about “should have”...

And no, before someone says it, it hasn’t “aged poorly”. It always looked terrible. It was just so new at the time that a small amount of people fell for it. See: early 32 bit games which are considered borderline unplayable now and ironically had terrible pre-rendered CG intros of a similar grade to Beast Wars.

The facial expressions may have been the worse part of it. That’s where they really were stretching the budget, in long boring as hell dialogue scenes.

BTW: Is a chrome plated rat actually supposed to fool anyone? Why do they transform at all in that show?

The stuff in these boxes...honestly I’m not sure what any of it is but I’m sure we’ve seen some of it before. It will be demo scene type stuff but also probably some commercials. There won’t be a single thing in it that’s just cheap TV animation stretched out over hours and hours to sell toys. It won’t be Monkey Prime’s face talking about The Spark or whatever directly into the camera for hours. It will be stuff that looks slightly better despite being a decade older and probably no more than a minute to two long in most cases. There’s likely a lot of 2D stuff also, but that’s just a guess.

LOL, really? I thought you said it was like a "great wildlife LD".

And cool TL;DR story on Beast Wars as well.

Thanks, that was pretty cool actually.

I tried to get into Reboot a long time ago, but it's story always seemed pale compared to Beast Wars, but I'll have to give it another chance someday.

You’re the first person I’ve ever heard who had nice things to say about Beast Wars but actually knew what anime is.

I have to ask, do you like Exosquad?
