Belle au bois dormant, La (1959) [22/0476]

La Belle au bois dormant (1959) [22/0476] "Sleeping Beauty" is naturally a French PAL released by Disney studios. This version is the remastered version in widescreen. Like most Disney animation in French this version is the second dubbing from 1981, the first being in 1959. There have been no other dubbings done of this film to date so this version is not a laserdisc exclusive, like those of some of my other Disney reviews.

This transfer is top-notch but it does have some slight aliasing in certain scenes, although not too bad. The transfer is resonably sharp by laserdisc standards too. Side two of this release is in CAV.

This style of animation seems to be quite unique for a Disney animated feature and it is not to my taste and lacks a certain warmth that Disney films from the 1937 through the 1940's had, in my opinion.

A very nice PAL release!
