a study in contrasts. i just finished, back to back, first, "Tamako Market" on Blu-Ray, a modern, Kyoto Animation series, which means, above average in animation quality by today's standards.
i chased that down with "Jewel BEM Hunter Lime" on DVD, a long forgotten, seemingly-cancelled-after-three-episodes mid-90's series based on a PC-98/SONY PS1/SEGA SATURN game series.
even with it's old, grungy, imperfect looks, Lime had more verve, life and sheer charisma in it's characters in three odd-ball episodes than Tamako came even close to managing in it's entire 12 episodes worth of bright, sparkly HD i wanna be K-ON! too! "perfection"
in sum, Lime made me feel like i was fifteen again, discovering strange, awesome Anime for the first time at my local Video Rental store, whist Tamako made me feel like... i just ate a bowl of FROOT LOOPS.
J.B.H. Lime may hardly be one of the great OVA classics, but it sure did a handy job of acquitting itself by way of illustrating absolutely everything that is quite fatally wrong with today's utterly disposable, nonentity of an Anime industry.
finally, while i hate to blame it all on the modern Moe stylistic motif, since i actually tend to LIKE Moe, -at least older, foundation Moe- the smoking gun here does indeed seem firmly within the defendant's grasp, and it ain't giving me much of anything to work with...

I hate when good shows of the old days only end too soon like Sol Bianca and Debutante Detective Corps. I am sure there are others. I do like Sol Bianca Legacy but damn me I would like to have both realizations completed and released. I will have track to Jewel one of these days. It sounds like something I would enjoy.

OK just watched: Love City [TLL 2035]Ai City or Love City. And now watching Bobi ni kubittake (1985) [SF058-0078]This has a feel that reminds me of what someone like forper is missing from the early days of Japanese anime and nostalgia. Very hard to find and I somehow lucked out getting this 2 years ago on YJ cheap. Well that was odd, the link on the page to post on the forum didn't work due to the odd dash above the I in Bobi which should really be Bobby as the cover title is Bobby's not Bobî

it supposedly ties in to Chobits, another superlative CLAMP work.
it doesn't seem all that great, so far, -five eps. in or so- but hopefully it will eventually build up to something more significant than the "POKE'MON-battle-an-episode" formula it has been stuck on from the start... I enjoyed it at the time but it's not really a necessity even as a CLAMP work. Chobits is better.

I just don't really go to anime centric forums enough to know majority held opinions. I just saw the scores for it on IMDB, ANN and MAL. All of which were in the 7-8 range so I figured I would ask about that.

takeshi666 wrote: Recently started re-watching Hokuto no Ken 2, the infamous followup to the original series. I always find it amusing that the english title is "Fist of the North Star" when the main character's martial art is clearly based on the big dipper constellation, but then this sequel series introduces an art based on Polaris, the actual North Star. Hokuto means northern something doesn't it? Ken is just "way of" or something?
