But the series I prefer to watch on NETFLIX...as they are all in HD and look amazing. Sadly the first 4 seasons have been cropped and zoomed with sharpening applied and are slightly darker than the Laserdiscs. But are a marked improvement across the board, even the special effects. Yes, me as well. I have copies from the German HD airings and they are beautiful. I'm making my way through the series in HD. I'm on Season 2. I sold my Japanese imports several years back.

Just noticed that the blu-ray set was coming out. Pretty expensive in Sweden espec. compared to how extremly cheap the complete collection is on dvd now. Would be nice to get complete Jap set on LD, not that easy to find all of them though.

You are correct, Substance. All the seasons will be presented in 1.78:1, though rumor has it that Fox are sitting on a full screen restoration as well, but I don't think it will see the light of day, even if the rumors are to be true. Have been following the forum threads over at Blu-ray.com and I'm really excited for it to be released at all. Very interesting posts and lots of screen comparisons between the dvd release and the german HD channel. From a subjective point of view, I can truly see in the image of some shots that it was composed with the 4:3 (tv aspect ratio) in mind, but they are claiming it was protected for the 16:9. As with S.T:TNG, some upscaled material will be included as the negatives where not found/lost and some of the effects has no original source to provide a high resolution shot and therefore upscaled due to budget, I believe.
