Many of those boxsets can be got incredibly cheaply these days so aren't worth much at all. For example I got X-Files Season 7 vol 1, 2 and 3 boxsets for the equivalent of $1 USD total for all three shown: All are complete and near mint still in original plastic wraps. Those are all late PILF-28** series titles too released in the year 2000 but there was almost no demand for them now in Japan because space is more precious in Japan.

There have been 2 japan sets sold on ebay in the last few months. One from the states sold for £15 but box was in poor condition and one from UK in better condition but no obi sold for over £40. Star Trek voyager sets have buy it nows in the region of £200 to £300 each. TNG sets are being listed at £70 to £80 each. One seller is selling the first 7 sets for £320. The same seller is selling all 3 sets of the original series for £500. Here on LDDB a seller from Switzerland is selling a lot of Star Trek Japan ld sets for $80 each. There are people willng to spend money on these sets. I paid £112 for three sets of Columbo LDs. Maybes I overpaid but I wasn't the only bidder.

If you are upset that something you purchased hasn't maintained its value, I suggest you buy something else next time. I love laserdiscs and I love Colombo, and I LOVE Japanese box sets, so I can't see why these would be worth any more to someone else than they would be to me, and to me they aren't worth very much. There are just too many LDs out there for them to all be precious, sad but true. Most big bad Japanese box sets trade for %10 of their original price at the most, and only then when the material inside holds some level of interest to someone. Therefore I'd say $20 max each. I mean...the HD transfers of this show are extremely good. Very good. Also, only $450 on BR for literally everything. The LDs are sorta useless now, unless there is something special about them. I've never actually seen them.

In fact I got vol 1 up for sale here, dipping my toes in the water so to speak. Don't expect it to sell though. But...why? What makes you think that 20 year old LDs of 40 year old TV episodes are somehow supposed to give you anything but a fiscal loss? Stuff depreciates man, almost everything does. I have LDs I paid $100 for that are worth $1 today. I have LD boxes from Japan that cost $700-1000 new but I only paid $5-50 in recent years. That's life. If you aren't prepaired for that, don't buy the stuff. It's Columbo, not Fabrige.

I saw one of the box sets on ebay in a lot, there were about 3-4 Japanese box sets and some single discs, about 20 in all. sold for around 100 bucks, so 20-40 sounds right. there are 2 on lddb but I think price and location have a lot to do with it, half price from the UK or Netherlands is still a little high but if you are missing volume 1 then you need it. ________________________________ the rein-o official signature:

What Bluray is? What made you want them so bad a week ago so bad you had to drop $200 per box on the things and now not want them at all? Make up your mind! I thought you got them back in the 90s or something. Have you even had time to watch them yet? Next time wait ten seconds before you hit the BIN button. All this LD s**t is *old*. If something 20 years old is on eBay today, then %95 of the time it's been there before and it'll be there again. Shop around. Be patient. Control yourself.

Boxes have limited number of people that want them, mainly because they take up so much space, also kind of hard to keep in good condition. I am a huge x-files fan, I owned the vhs box sets and then the dvd sets, and in the end the complete box with everything in it. And I also have most of the japanese ld boxes, but I dont really know why, its so much work just to bring one up to watch.
On the net I would say 20 usd each. Local, you might get more, maybe even 50 usd if you can get someone that wants them. Think its worse with Columbo. I wouldnt even take Columbo for free.

another issue similar to substance is: the box sets aren't even the complete run of the series. if you were to get the DVDs you would have the entire series. and I agree with johan, it is hard to watch discs in boxes, you need a lot of space to get all the discs out and store until you get to the next disc etc. ________________________________ the rein-o official signature:
