This player is it connected to a scaler or directly to your TV?
How are night time scenes from LD movies displayed on a 4K TV, sharp and clear or poor quality?

My full-hd tv can't display night time scenes in a normal fashion, picture is very dark and peoples skin tones looks like brown poop.
Daytime scenes are perfectly clear.
I need to use my scaler between the LD and TV to display perfect picture for dark scenes

Sounds like you need to make more adjustments, or get a video essentials.

I purchased 5-6 different hdmi scalers, tested them all and decided not to use them.
All scalers introduce slight image degradation.
I connect the player directly to the analog input of the Sony TV.
Without adjustments, the image looks too bright and faded.

Here on the forum it is recommended to change the brightness and contrast settings on a modern LCD TV when viewing laserdisc.

You need to turn the brightness to minimum in the TV settings and try to increase the contrast.

It really seems that the onboard comb filter that Sony install in their OLED panels is pretty damn good when it comes to maximising LD picture quality or indeed any other composite video format.

I agree, since most modern external hdmi converters are cheap Chinese.

I believe that LCD tv's had poor resolution displayed for laserdisc players that's why nighttime scenes look so very awful?

I bought my Full-HD TV in 2016, it was the only TV still using S-video incorporated in the scart socket.
I have my Pioneer players using S-video instead of composite.
With my scaler I get a very nice picture quality, without the scaler it's a disaster watching nighttime scenes!

If I do any adjustments for LD it will also affect my other broadcasting channels on the tv.
Can't do individual adjustments for each channels.

I understood you. I have a 2022 TV Sony model and it supports individual settings for each inputs. I use composite input for laserdisc.

My 4K Bravia is from 2017 I think and it also looks amazing with LD plugged right into it. The age of the in-line doodad seems to have finally ended.

On newer 4K tv's you don't need a scaler at all?
Dark scenes can be displayed perfectly and skin tones has a natural color tone on LD?

Do these new 4K tv's all have 3D combfilters from factory?
My Full-HD doesn't seem to have a 3D combfilter as I see artefacts from time to time.

I don’t have a single thing to say about ALL TVs, just the good ones. Sony is always the safest bet when it comes to TV.

Yes, plenty of reviews out there that seem to agree that LG, Samsung et al although decent performers with HD/UHD, are just not in the same league as Sony when it comes to standard def video PQ unfortunately.

It's the only one still offering S-video into the scart socket, no other brands had this option back then.

Laserdiscs, without exception, contain only an analog composite video signal. If you output a signal from your video player through the s-video output, the player converts the normal composite signal to s-video inside the player. Therefore, there is no point in using the s-video output in this video player model. You will not get any video enhancement from the s-video output.

My CLD-R7G needs S-video to output it's 3D kammfilter.
All my other gear use S-video which I have connected to an S-video matrix ----------> S-video input on TV
