Also now that I'm typing and reading this to myself, I'm curious how it would fair with older media players. Most of the widescreen CRTs that came out in the late 90s and early 00's are of high quality, and they better be for the price these things were fetching (the first widescreen WEGA had a $8000 price tag back in 1998!!!) This Philips seems to have some good features to it: 3D comb filter, HDCP compliant DVI connection (that way you can connect a blu-ray player with an HDMI to DVI cable and get HD-resolutions.) I've never seen it in action though. Here are the specs: http://download.p4c.philips.com/files/3 ... _aenus.pdf

Looks awesome, nissling. The only HD crt I've kept is my Panny CT-32HXC43. It's a wonderful set but I would say it is from the downslope of 4:3 sets toward the 16:9 sets...pretty bare bones, no comb filter period nor 720 mode, just pure ED/HD. 1080i is quite nice but not as nice as yours, even from a camera shot on a forum!!!
I'm currently testing cables for 480p, particularly for original xbox. The best ones are cheap...many of the "upscale" cables for that console produce a s**t ton of ringing on this television. My favorite so far is a cheapass multi system cable for xbox/ps2/gamecube. I don't know it's origin or brand lol.

The Sony HDM-3830 is like a BVM on steroids. Just like yours it only has ED/HD, either through YPbPr or RGBHV. It's by far the heaviest (405lbs) and most expensive CRT I know of. When I first saw it in real person I almost passed out and thought "What the hell am I doing?!" (mainly due to its reasonable size) but afterwards it's lovely to have seen this monitor in action. The picture is stunning in every single way. But then again, there is a romantic rumor when it comes to CRTs. Some people seem to refer to what the very best reference monitors were capable of when they're explaining what the technology is all about. Those monitors don't have much in common with a 28" CRT that were sold by Magnavox to the consumers in the 90s if you know what I mean.

And indeed the Panasonic is pure consumer goods. I may evolve into trying these monitors someday but for now I have to appreciate others. Say, is that the monitor from the beginning of Until the end of the World?

Did Panasonic ever make any reference CRT monitors? I know they've made LCD ones at least but I've never seen a professional CRT by them. Sony is by far the most common, but NEC, JVC and Ikegami also shows up now and then. Reference CRTs behave very different to consumer ones but use whatever suits you. Have a look at Phonedork's videos to get an idea what some of them are like. About Until the end of the world, I think that's the HDM-2830 so it's very close but the bottom is wider on the 3830 (and it's overall bigger of course). Very interesting to see so thanks for telling me. I wonder where that CRT is by now...

Sorry, out of town working! I don't know. Someone might. I would think that until the time of consumer HD sets with better precision and fabrication, the screens wouldn't be good enough. Trinitron really ruled the roost for a long long time. It strikes me as one of few technologies which could reach that level until very late. Other makers probably upped their game on precise manufacturing....perhaps even ushering in the era of competitive shadow masks? Just speculating there. My money says Wim Wenders still has that set and uses it for shmups

One is a Toshiba 32HF73 and the seller is only asking $40, seems to be in good shape and has the remote. The other is a Sony KV-30XBR910, but the seller of that wants considerably more money. I'm not 100% sold on getting on, but I'm wondering if these are good monitors for older and modern movie watching.

According to the spec sheet . . . http://support.toshiba.com/support/mode ... xt=2841706. . . that Toshiba is pretty comprable to the WEGA KV-32HS510 that I got for my parents, so I would go for that over the Sony (mostly because I'd rather have a 4:3 CRT over a 16:9 CRT.)

I suck so hard sometimes. TV sold for $27. Was only 15 miles from me...oh well.

You know, some years ago, this seller had a room full of unused, boxed, HLD-X9's. Maybe someone should ask him if he is also selling those But his prices are hilarious, and this very monitor is sold "untested as is". So yeah, try your luck.

That monitor looks like a heavy monster. On the other hand I would like to go to Germany and attempt to track down family.
