substance wrote: Because majority of those don't work well for Laserdiscs. How do you figure? It is almost exactly what they are designed to do? Most broadcast equipment was already component (betacam, d1, d2, etc.). These comb filters were designed specifically to convert CVBS (or composite signals, which a laserdisc is) to component video (analog or SDI). Check out: http://notonbluray.com/blog/comb-tb-tests/ for a comparison. by my eyes, the ~$100-$200 DPS-575 blows away any laserdisc player except the HLD-X9. I recently got a golden gate decoder and it made a huge improvement.

example pictures: The $200 Snell and wilcox MDD2000 I just got http://vdi.cs.washington.edu/img/MDD2200SandW.jpgwithout http://vdi.cs.washington.edu/img/NOTCOMB.jpgEDIT: It should be noted that these pictures were taken with my Canon DSLR mounted on a tripod in my theater room, lights off. The MDD2200 is running SDI to a BlackMagic design SDI to HDMI converter, into my Panasonic LCD PJ. Because of the darkness in the room, the DSLR shutter is open for a while, which makes the "Tartan Bars" and "Chroma Frequency Response" dot crawl appear better than it actually is. The dot crawl is blurred a bit by the shutter speed. There is mild dot crawl perceptible in reality. However, the other portions of the test are as they appear.
