I was curious, I pulled apart my BlackMagic Intensity Shuttle for Thunderbolt
This is the list of electronics inside.

ADV7604 HDMI receiver with analog interface. It is Hdmi 1.3/HDCP 1.3 with 12 bit/deep color support. It has a 12-bit ADC

ADV7180 10-bit SD analog video decoder with 2D 5-line comb filter / 10-bit ADC

ADV7393 10-bit SD/HD video decoder /10-bit ADC

Cirrus Logic CS4256 24-bit/192kHz transmitter. This chip has 5 functions in one, perhaps responsible for the entire audio side of the board.

There is also AD98898 for ADC, perhaps to digitize the analog audio inputs.

A Spartan-6 series FPGA

The only chip equipped with a comb filter is adv7180 which is a 2D 5-line design. It is safe to assume this chip is used for the composite input.

Wonder if the USB 3.0 version
has the same set-up?

It was for the muse capture. It can’t do 1080p60.i bought the pcie version later which can capture up to 4k.

Okay, but for viewing better to go through a "scaler" as opposed to a "capturererer"?
