What framerate gives best result for LD on HDTV using DVDO VP50 ? 60hz lock or 59.94 unlock ?
What effect framerate setting has exactly ?

With lock the framerate with be forced in whichever you've selected. With unlock it can change depending on the source material or the results it's giving after the processing.

Technically 60 fields/frames per second only existed in the 50s. With early CRTs the manufacturers decided to have the tubes to run in the same frequencies as the mains to avoid bad filtering. However when NTSC came to life it wasn't possible to keep the framerate at 60 fields per second partly because monochrome sets couldn't view the signal but also because the picture carrier "collided" with the sound carrier. By dividing the frequency with 0.1 they got rid of all these issues and it's been the standard ever since.

thank you for the explanation ! Then it is better to select unlock ? After unlock they ask for frequency, I read somewhere that 59.94 is good frequency, is that right ? why ?

59.94 is the standard for all NTSC sources and such. 50 is for PAL and SECAM countries basically. If you're not using any PAL sources nor watch Blu-Rays through your DVDO then I'd choose unlock 59.94.

Thinking of picking up a VP50 just to centralise my cables without losing, if not gaining PQ.

I assume I can run 5BNC to my Sony KVHR36 and presumably get a 1080 upscaled picture off DVD and LD? Should make Blade Runner look even more detailed than it already does on LD?

1080p 24hz would be technically correct with deinterlacing set at 3:2 pulldown for LD film sources.
