Hello all. I am new to the LDDB, but not to the laserdisc format. I had an awesome Viewsonic projector for almost 15 years and it finally crapped out. I recently found a used NEC VT700 (3000 lumen) office projector with 40 hours for $60. The VT700 actually turned out to be great projector for playing laserdiscs after optimizing the settings. If you pair the VT700 with a Focus Enhancements CS-1 the real magic happens. The CS-1 does a fantastic job cleaning up the picture, and you can find them for about $50 these days. Anybody else running a budget projector rig?

Welcome...

I run an old Hitachi projector I got for my favorite price... FREE! Well, I had to put a bulb in it, but that only ran me $15. Picked up a screen off of Amazon for $35. I think I paid $20 for the ceiling mount. So for less than 100 bucks I'm enjoying my discs at around 120". The projector's contrast is low, but I usually don't watch movies until night anyways. Being an older unit, the shortcomings of LD are suppressed. I'm very happy with my setup.

I have had good luck buying older gear from the universities. I picked up an older Runco CRT projector with the controller for $75, I must admit that the picture quality with laserdisc is superior to anything else I have owned, but it uses way more electricity than I like. My power bill went up $18 a month using this thing.

That's awesome. I'd love to have a CRT projector.
...Even at $18/mo.
