I found one of these legendary 4:3 hdcrt beasts and had to give it a go. Only trouble is I have no idea what to put it on. Anybody have any ideas? |

Nothing that you can buy online comes to mind. Nothing I've seen actually sold as a "TV stand" can even take half that weight nowadays. You'll have to make something. I was lucky to get the OEM stand for my XBR960. |

Might be time to break out the ole' carpenter's tools, solid hardwood is the way to go, stay away from anything particle board.. maybe you could find some industrial grade wood/metal shelf? Or maybe just some real old solid piece of furniture.... |

I have my 88kg Sony TV on a modern unit from BDI. No problems. The glass topper is slightly warped however... |

My dad built a stand for my 960 but isn't able to do so again. I had thought about the steel wire shelving which is rated to 350 lbs per shelf and the wide version fits the length of the tv but not the depth. The shelves are usually about 18 inches and the official 955 depth is 25. |

Have you tried doing a search on Craigslist for the actual Sony stand for this TV: SU-36HX1 I actually got crazy lucky looking for the comparable stand for the KV-40XBR800 (I had that one previous to the XS955) on craigslist in my area and actually found someone selling it new in box! As far as the steel stand goes, as long as the footprint of the TV rests on the stand, you should be okay with letting the back, protruding part of the tube "float" so to speak. About 80% of the weight of the set is in the front, so there's little worry about the back of the tube pulling the set down in that direction. |
