Japanese brand obviously. Never heard of them.

Current product line doesn't have scaler with analog video/SD inputs.
They seem to be good at signal generators.

Their last VP (Video Processor) was discontinued in 2005: http://www.astrodesign.co.jp/english/discontinued-items-video.html

Doesn't look very promising.

Stick to Crystalio and Lumagen :-)

No I am really interrested in the japanese products :
http://www.astrodesign.co.jp/astro_upda ... er2011.pdf
If you search for SC-2067-MD1 model, it can do many things.
It has Y/C filtering, upscaling, PC control, PAL/NTSC, Hi/low resolution SDI, VGA, DVI, HDMI support, and lot of resolution support (p8).
It seems very impressive.
And the price was around 1.400.000 yens (!), maybe the double of most expensive lumagen.
I am just really curious !

Mistook about Y/C filtering. It is a Y/C video in.
but SC-2067 model has RCA in ! The cost was a little bit less : around 1200000 yens !

It only takes SDI and S-Video for SD input... How exactly do you connect your LD Player in Composite to take advantage of a better Y/C filtering?

Yes, i was mistaken.
but SC-2067 model has RCA in. It doesn't do Y/C filtering.

Still confused: http://www.astrodesign.co.jp/astro_updata/Catalog/SC/SC-2067.pdf

Only analog inputs are audio and RGB... hardly what you need for LD.

It might be RF composite indeed (TV signal), just haven't seen it labelled like that outside of Japan before:

http://www.interfacebus.com/Design_Connector_Video.html
Quote:
Composite Video may also be called VBS [Video, Blanking and Syncs], or CVBS [Color, Video, Blanking, and Sync].

Next to 0 mention of Astro Design (except for digital video generator models) on AVS Forum. Unless you can borrow one for free to test it, I think it's a complicated path to follow.

While I can't really read a word of that PDF document, the back of the unit does have BNC connectors for IN and OUT of what looks like MON for monitor??
And on my TV I can connect the yellow composite into I believe its the green of the component as that is what I believe is a combination input for possibly all devices.

As for this Astro unit I have NO idea if this is what you need and for the price in the 800 range on ebay it may not be worth the risk as you have no idea if this will do what you want or need.

Today I bought 2 machines of this brand on yahoo :) + 1 interresting machine of other brand.
Couldn't resist^^

One is a scan converter : IDK VUC-01
For 8200 yens (with sending fees)
The selling price in 2004 was 100.000 yens !
RCA in -> DVI / RGB out

One is a line doubler : ASTRO SC-2054-A
For 7900 yens (with sending fees)
Selling price around 2004 was also around 100.000 yens maybe more !
RCA in -> RGB out

One is a multimedia scan converter : ASTRO MC-2018
For 6000 yens (!) (with sending fees)
It was a very expensive machine around 2007, maybe more than 500.000 yens !
up to 4 RGB in -> RGB / DVI out
I plan to do 4 player comparaison on the same screen with this player ! You can have up to 4 video source, and display them to one screen. You can also rotate, control border, and many other things !

I will test 3 of the machine and give a report soon ;)
If someone is interrested, (the ASTRO SC-2054-A and MC-2018) machine were sold in double, then I can resell the second machine for around the half of the price + sending fees.
I will post again after recieving the machines ! (very excited !)

Please let us know if this will do anything of what LD collectors would want.
I'm not in the market for an upscaler but its always nice to find other devices if they do actually work.

I just searched again, and I was right as my TV is not hooked up after the move.
It is Yellow Video that goes into Green Y input.
Keep us posted.
