I bought a CLD-59 with six laserdiscs at an antique store for $100 but the player won’t spin up so I’m debating whether to fix it or sell for parts. I haven’t been able to find a service manual to identify the motor part number.

Does anyone have any tips on how to troubleshoot it? The motor makes a whirring noise for a while then ejects discs. I took the cover off to see what is happening and it seems obvious the motor has failed because it doesn’t move at all.

Order this loading belt

http://www.pacparts.com/part.cfm?part_no=VEB1184&mfg=Pioneer

Take off the top and remove the tray or pull it forward, unplug the player. At the front left under the tray you'll see the belt, replace it.

Thanks, I ordered the belt and will report back if it does the trick.

I looked inside the player and see a belt wrapped around the white tray loading gears at the front left but don't understand how replacing that will help the main motor spin. The tray opens and closes fine so what effect is a new belt for that supposed to have?

That belt lifts the entire mechanism up to mount the disc, the belt is slipping, you need a new belt.

It's probably more likely to be a broken m-holder than a slipping belt ;)

I read another thread about tilting players to get them spinning so tried that and voila, it’s working now. I tried a few discs and it needed a couple more tilts to function so I’ll look into some ways to balance it.

Thanks for the tips, I’m glad I have a new belt on hand in case that wears out.
