At present if you receive a best offer for an item in your store, you can accept, decline or leave it until the time expires. If it were possible, I'd like a new feature. The ability to decline a best offer, but then send a counter offer to the prespective buyer.
For example:
I have an item in my shop for $50
I receive a best bid of $40 but I decline as I don't want to sell it that cheap. Thinking about it though, I would accept a best bid of $45.
I counter best bid $45 to the buyer and the buyer can then accept or decline the new offer.

I know I could just change the price to $45 in my store inventory, but I have no way of knowing if the buyer who placed the original best bid will see it.

No idea if it can be done or not. Just an idea I had.

It's on my list of things to do... as well as the capability, when a best offer has expired because the seller was away from than 48h, to re-offer the same price as a firm offer if the buyer is still interested.

It just requires very careful programing to make sure I handle all the cases: what if there is another best offer coming on the same title before the first buyer has agreed/rejected/counter-offered? what if the title is sold before the buyer receives the counter-offer? And a few more what-ifs I must take care of to avoid inconsistencies or LD sold twice...

:ugeek: <- my zen-self considering all the possible combinations... Right now with best offers, I already have 8 distinct cases to consider!

Yes I'd like to see this feature as well as I have received many offers for titles I was selling that I declined initially, never to hear back again!

I have dealt with this in my shop policies.
I ask that people email offers so that we can haggle it out.
Has worked wonders so far.
Would be great for more options from the "Best Offer" control panel though.
Thanks for addressing this Julien !

Hey FireHorse. Thats a great idea you've got there.
Hope you don't mind, but I'm going to put that into my shop policies as well.
Cheers for the good advice

No problem bullruckle..... Anytime !
Just makes sense is all and people that take the time to read your policies do take note !
A good portion of my sales this year have been through this route.
It is a win win for everyone involved.

All things LaserDisc will only get better and better as more and more ideas are shared through the Forum.....
Very grateful for this new arena to meet fellow dealers/collectors and to read and share ideas....
Have learned so much from the Forum threads already and it has just started !!!

I am just having a very rare thing in my life this week-end... 100% spare time and no one around!

They really come 2 or 3 times a year

That means that I have some extra time to allocate to LDDb's programming and I am just about to tackle a very old beast: counter-offers.

Right now my design looks like this:
Image

90% of the coding is done. Now I need to pass the Q&A mandatory tests before pushing the new code upgrade to the live system.

Here are the previews for the "Best offers" interface for Buyer and Seller, respectively.

... and I realized the notification for the counter-offer didn't leave, it was on debug-mode!

I re-sent them manually, no issue. Let's see if we can see a round of counter-offers to validate the notifications on both sides.

Regards,
Julien

In the middle of adding some titles for sale yesterday I saw a strange debugging screen with red text shown.
Julien - presumably this was a side effect of something you were working on yesterday?
It didn't seem to cause any problems as it disappeared as soon as clicked the mouse/typed - I can't remember which I did first!
I wish I'd taken a screen shot - it was like an all black screen DOS prompt with red text in it!

In all likelihood, yes it was!

A reminiscence of systems past...

Yes that's what I saw - very strange.
I thought my whole computer had packed in for a moment until I read the text and did as it instructed and all was fine again!

Added minutes ago!

Sellers with counter-offers that expired can re-offer the same best counter-offer back to the prospective buyer for another 48 hours.

Buyer can then, as usual, accept, reject or let it expire.
