There are currently 56,913 laserdisc titles in the database.
Many titles have never sold on LDDB.com so there are no past sales figures.
Other titles seem to be very valuable but it isn't always obvious why, especially to a novice.
Then we get some new seller listing every common title like Speed, Independence Day for $200 each which just wastes everyone's time.

I've often thought it would be great feature if there was a button to get a more accurate estimate of the true value of a title today.

The formula behind this could take into account factors like:
average of past sales figures if any
current trends in the market
year of release
number of copies owned
known rare titles
condition scale
demand for title
existing bids on titles
sales figures from other sites (if possible)
etc

Call it a ready reckoner or estimator.
I realise it could be a little experimental particularly at first but it sure would be a lot of fun to see what it comes up with!
It could be fine tuned over time to really become a useful feature, especially for all the newbies.

This is a good idea; though I can see the logistics of implementing it might be hard.

I'm sure there is a saying something along the lines of "something is only worth what it sold for" and along those lines it would be good to come up with something to implement your idea of "sales figures from other sites (if possible)" to complement the sales history on lddb.

I've no real computer expertise but maybe some kind of 'search bot' style thing that could look for title names and record sale prices. Might only work where there is a fairly well set site format like ebay but could generate a useful pool of information. Think it would miss more informal trading like on FB or Craigslist though.
