I think it's great that we can do exports of our collection but is there a way to designate more fields (or select the ones we want). I have almost 1700 movies in my collection and would like the ability to add some other fields, such as movie length to the exports. It would be extra great if we can select specific fields to include or exclude. I typically will manually delete some default exported fields such as country, video, etc. before printing a master list of my movies for a physical copy reference list.

Export is a great way to get a full list of the movies you own into a format that is easily printable in a spreadsheet program. However, it seems like a missed opportunity to not have access to all the data fields in the database. Thanks.

I just also wanted to bring up an issue with the "CSV" export. The export file is kind of broken when there are titles where the prefix is sent to the end with a comma. For example, all the movies that are titled "The ..." are listed in the database as "..., The". When you go and try to import the CSV file, new entries are made for those comma's in the title. CSV export should have the option of removing these commas in the titles (or restore the title to their original versions).

Downloading the files in XML/XLS solves this issue I believe.

The separator for this file is \t (tabulation).
Have you tried importing with tab instead of comma?
Maybe rename it from .csv to.tsv for Excel?

Example:

ID   Format   Reference   Title   Release   Video   Specs   Country   UPC   Condition   Notes   Date
11126   ld   356190   Cité des enfants perdus, La (1995)   1996   PAL   LBX/SRD   France   3388333561908   7

Hi Julien

I think your knowledge of database information is way beyond mine. I was just pointing out that when you export the collection in csv and then open it up with a spreadsheet program, the commas in the titles mess up the output. I have attached the exported csv file as well as the csv file imported into Libreoffice Calc (I don't use MS Excel). The commas in the titles mess up the columns as you can see.

I can't upload the files as .csv and .ods are not allowed so I put them in a zip file if you want to see the original export and the import via Libreoffice.

I'm sure LibreOffice has an "import" module that lets you choose which delimiter is to be used like this?
Using tabs will make commas work as expected.

Yes, Julien. You are correct. If I import them using the tab option it appears to work well. Thanks for the clarification.

Any chance that in the future we would be able to export more of database fields?
