I don't have the measuresments of my gear or anything so. is this too short to put things on like LD players [on the top] and possibly other gear or laserdiscs underneath. I suppose if this doesn't work I'll have to use a Lack table for the player either LDS2 or CLD-79

Players will be ~17" deep I think. Maybe 19". Without accounting for air circulation.

I'm having to get a stand for the la players which hopefully doubles as having storage for LDs or something else. Also into the measurements you have to factor how far the cable-stocks stick out, unless you have 90 degree RCAs. Won't matter for all players. Less important if the shelving won't be directly against the wall (wainscoting or any other cause). If it won't, then you could clamp a deeper board to the top of the shelf from behind and not have to worry about the LD's feet teetering.

Wainscoting generally runs to the height this shelving would be (unless there's wainscoting that's like knee height but I've never seen it that low), skirting would be the thing that pushes shelves out from being flush against a wall. All wainscoting I've ever seen has skirting board though. Just thought maybe you got confused, if not carry on

planning to get another shelf mainly music on top and laserdiscs on the bottom so basically 2 of the above like one long piece. this time the question is would below be more sturdy for gear on top than getting 2 of the individual square and put them side by side? if I get below I might have to order it online and get it delivered since I know I put the small one in the car just don't know about the longer bigger one.
