I finally had the time to put together my home theater system. Before I placed all components inside the cabinet, I cleaned their internals, fans, heat sinks etc.. I had the opportunity to take pictures of the mighty Crystalio II(CII) video processor's internals. Attachment:

This one shows all boards and the HDD. I will include close up shots in later posts. I own a CII VPS-3800 Pro and a CII VPS-3300. I will also include a couple shots from VPS-3300. They both include Analog Devices ADV7321 for 12bit 216mhz analog to digital encoder and + TI TVP5160 chips for 2D/3D 5 Line (5H) adaptive Comb filter + TBC + 3D adaptive analog noise reduction. They both include Faroudja Fli2300 with DCDi and Gennum VXP GF9351 dual architecture for SD de-interlacing which is user selectable. Gennum VXP GF9351 is later used for scaling to up to 1080p. Faroudja and Gennum chips also offer user adjustable noise reduction for both analog and digital sources. These above components put Pixel Magic System Crystalio II products a step further from other video processors for analog video processing. VPS-3800 Pro model includes built in 250GB HDD and a media player. Video and audio circuits clocked by 1ppm low jitter TCXO. 2 HD-SDI inputs (VPS-3300 has 2 SD-SDI inputs). 2 firewire connectors.

Seagate 250GB 7200rpm IDE(P-ATA) HDD for the built in media player. Media player has MPEG1/2/4 decoding capability to provide high quality media playback. External USB disks and/or the included 200GB internal hard disk can be used to store various video clips including the MPEG2 TS video taken by the new HDV cameras. It can also play .ISO files. I ripped most of my DVDs into .ISO files. Media player can play them like DVDs with menus, subtitles, audio options. Since it's a direct line from the mpeg decoder, VP gets perfect unaltered(similar to SDI) feed.

Gennum VXP GF9351 chip. GF9352 is used on Lumagen Radiance units. GF9352 is near exact chip with further support for better 2:2 cadence detection and digital noise reductions(mosquito noise reduction added).

There are a number of these chips by Silicon Image. I am not sure what they are used for. You can also see the Analog Devices ADV7321 chip on lower right corner.

Texas Instruments TVP5160 chip used for 3D/2D 5 Line (5H) adaptive comb filter + TBC + 3D adaptive analog noise reduction. 3D comb filter can be defeated. When enabled it has 4 controls with 100 increments. Luma gain, Chroma gain, Luma coring, Chroma coring. Gain controls how fast the comb filter should switch between 2D and 3D and coring controls what it should consider noise, static, not moving and what it should consider moving.

There is a good number of these. I am not sure what they are used for. Cirrus Logic name usually goes with audio converters. Might be D/A or A/D audio converters.

This is an interesting one. I am not sure what it is for. I know the media player is Linux based. Maybe it uses this Intel chip.

VPS-3800 and VPS-3300 rear. VPS-3300 missing firewire ports between Ethernet digital inputs. All video inputs are BNC connectors. 4 HDMI (profile 1.1) inputs. 2 HDMI(profile 1.1) outputs. 3 Digital coax input, 1 optical input. 1 Digital Coax output, 1 optical output. RS-232 control. IR input, output. 2 USB 2.0 inputs. Ethernet port for media share/transfer(needs FTP), 3 RCA analog inputs, 1 RCA analog output. Thanks for dual architecture(Faroudja and Gennum chips)unit can process 2 separate sources simultaneously and output from 2 separate HDMI outputs. It can do PIP and Split screen as well.

I think 32MB but don't quote me on it, it probably has the firmware for the unit, you can make an embedded Linux system fit into that.
