Okay, guys and gals, the rumor is that the Original Trilogy is being remastered in 4K for release next year. I hope so... There seems to be some evidence of this out there. Feast your eyes on this... Enjoy! http://vimeo.com/95919913

Hello laserreadfan, Thank you for the link, I had a view and enjoyed but none the wiser, only because I didn't look around for any additional info. It would make sense about the 4K transfer thou, as there is a demand from the video file public who want this to happen. I am currently waiting to received the LD Japanese Definitive collectors set through the post. Thank you for sharing Friend Kind Regards

laserreadfan wrote: Those screenshots are great and appreciated. I do prefer the Japan Special Collection versions over the Definitive Collection versions (either CAV or FACES CLV). To me, that shot of Han and Leia in Jabba's palace where Han has just been revived is just too dark, to the point to where the contrast is too washed out. And I agree there is too much red tint.
Does anyone have screenshots from the CBS/Fox Special Widescreen Editions for comparison? They are lower in resolution than the Japan Special Collection. I just wish that either of those versions had Jedi letterboxed properly in the center of the screen. Both have the picture too far towards the top. That was one thing the Definitive Collections did better but I still prefer the others. Your welcome, glad you enjoyed the pics.. Do you have a DVDo iScan or some type of video processor? because with those Laserdiscs that are mastered/letterboxed too far upward you can adjust the vertical position down so that the letterbox image is perfectly centered like normal on your TV. It's really easy to do. I posted these same comparsen pictures on blu-ray.com, and some of those snobs insist that the non-anamorphic DVD/Definitive Collection LD is better in terms of colour and everything. I shouldn't call them snobs, everyone is entitle to their own opinion, but i just can't see how anyone could prefer those DVNR red tinted transfers over the ones on the Japanese Special Collection LD.

Mine lacks a lot of aspect ratio features, it only has 16:9 which stretches the 4:3 letterbox image, and 4:3 mode which is just a box with big black bars on all sides of the image.

Great replies! To alien, no I don't currently have an outboard processor, but my Panasonic Plasma TV allows me to move the vertical position around to compensate for this, but it's only on a couple of titles that were done this way, like the CBS/Fox Special Widescreen Edition of Return of the Jedi, the JSC Return of the Jedi, and the Fox laserdisc of Kurosawa's Ran that come to mind off the top of my head. I TOTALLY agree about the transfer quality (or lack thereof) on the THX Definitive Collection LDs and the 2006 DVDs taken from the same 1993 digital masters. At the time, that DVNR was state of the art, but colorists weren't used to it, and applied too much noise reduction. Also, that horizontal band at the bottom of the death star trench is an obvious mistake that doesn't appear elsewhere, and slipped through quality control. (Though THX is usually a great program) Best regards!

IV that would give them profits from a re-release. But since the D is buying Fox, it should be all good now. Hopefully these will be the Theatrical cuts. I wonder if they'll toss the Special Editions out at this point? Even so, the best way to see the original Special Editions is on LD still.
