We all know the NTSC last discs, but does anyone know the UK's last discs?

I saw a eBay listing for a copy of small solders that said it was the last pal disc issued? Not sure if that's true or not though

It is listed as the highest catalogue number in the PLFEB 37 series
http://www.lddb.com/search.php?reference=PLFEB%2037*&discard=false&sort=date,asc&start=25

So it probably is the last 'PAL UK movie' release however it certainly isn't the last PAL worldwide release or last PAL non movie release. PAL titles were released throughout Europe, Australia and even occasionally parts of Asia (Malaysia, Singapore etc).

The last PAL French movie may be this one released in 2000 : Ennemi d'état (1998) [96-0606/22]

Sliding Doors was one of the last releases. June(or was it May?) 1999 was the last time Pioneer released an LD in the UK. They had releases due for the whole of 1999 but everything after June got cancelled. This is off the top of my head.

Armageddon, Deep Impact, Halloween: H20, Small Soldiers and Sliding Doors released in 1999. These were probably the last releases by Pioneer LDCE. According to the database there was a Laser Juke: Music Compilation Series (2001) 8" released in 2001 in NTSC which is weird since the UK was PAL.

I'm not sure there were ever any PAL laserdisc jukeboxes, think the ones sold in the UK were still NTSC. But I'm sure someone else will actually know, I'm just guessing.

Pioneer & Diamond Time LaserJuke 8inch are all NTSC [released until 2002] and majority were rented not sold, due to extreme high selling price of £150 a disc [only for sale if you owned a registered LaserJuke machine].
In France there were 12inch comparable discs released made by MPO in PAL format until 2001, these discs were not for sale.

Hi,

Thought I'd pick this on this old thread :)

Any further thoughts when these last UK PAL movies were actually released? Interesting to note only Deep Impact (PLFEB 37871) & Small Soldiers (PLFEB 37891) are date stamped 1999, Armageddon (PLFEC 37681), Halloween (PLFEC 37691) & Snake Eyes (PLFEB37701) have no external date stamps (i.e on the cover) at all and the others in the PLFEB 376 & 377 (378) series are date stamped 1998 (of the 8 x Uk releases in that series: 4 = 1998, 2 = undated, 2 = 1999).

As I store my collection in release order it does cause me to ask the question, for example Small Soldiers NTSC (ID5914DW), according to the database, was released late into the year 31/08/1999 however I would not have thought the UK distribution channels were releasing that late but then I would not have thought the UK would have got the release prior to the US? Some of you may recall the dying days of 3 x LD's for £22 from HMV if you were able to get to the Oxford Street store after all remaining stock from local stores had been shipped over, that was not in the winter months of 1999 I'm sure.

Looking at the date stamps and the catalogue numbering I am also assuming they were released out of sync with the cat number, i.e Mercury Rising (PLFEB 37781 & Sliding Doors (PLFEB 37771) are dated 1998 whilst those thought to be 1999 but not dated have a lower cat number.

If anybody can throw some light of this that would be great.

Many thanks

Yes some were released out of sync with the catalogue number, best to look at the stamper numbers
In France the Event Horizon PLFFB37381 has stamper numbers 21711G29 (November 29th 1998) and 02532G02 (December 2nd 1998),
Where for example Titanic PLFFD37511 was released at the end of October 1998 and Kiss The Girls FLFFB37451 has 15880F18 (October 18th 1998) - both cases with higher catalog numbers than Event Horizon, but released before.
The Chamber PLFFB37361 has stamper 29535F17 / 28955F18 (May 17th / 18th 1998) - just lower catalog number than Event Horizon, but mfg'd earlier.

Other interesting example is alien resurrection PLFFB37741 - this was manufactured initially for French rental market (with a different sleeve), several months later in January 1999 released for sales market.
So looking at the mfg date it shows they used the same master for rental and buy market - also it hasn't any intro - like for other Pioneer releases - they left it out on purpose for the rental.
