The title of this post is my question. I recently bought a Sony Bravia HDTV, model 32W600D and was setting it up for testing. In the process, I noticed that the set had 2 HDMI jacks and 1 jack with an adapter to go to 3 component cables. I also discovered that my Toshiba HD-DVD player, model HD-A3 has only component jacks for HD. Normally, this would not be bad except that to input Composite video I have to use the green jack of the component inputs thus locking out the Toshiba.
I was wondering if Toshiba made any players with an HDMI jack? I have a Sony Bluray player and it has an HDMI jack. Maybe the HDMI jack came out after my Toshiba player was produced or if the HDMI jack is proprietary to Sony?

You know you are right. I did not see the jack since the player is on top of my entertainment system and I have to use a mirror to look at the back of the player.
Fortunately, my Sony Bravia can do 1080p.
In looking at the player again, I know why I could not see the HDMI jack. The lettering labeling the jack is at the bottom of the player's back panel thus not making it obvious. Also, the jack looks too much like a USB jack leading to more confusion. I tested the jack and it works very well giving a nice picture.

Not correct. The native resolutions 1080p24/25/30 are supported. All HD-DVD discs except few are encoded in 1080p24. The first and second generation HD-DVD players have an early generation mpeg decoder that can only output 1080i60. XA2, A30 and A35 can natively output 1080p24.

Huh Well thanks for straightening me out. I thought the format was natively 1080i. Don't know where I read that. Maybe I was thinking of D-Theater . . .

substance wrote: Yes HD-DVD indeed supported 25 and 30 frame options although never utilized. HD had many advantages over Blu. Toshiba was developing 45 and 60 GB 3 and 4 layer discs but soon had to pull the plug. Yeah, they did reveal a 51GB triple layer HD-DVD http://gizmodo.com/228801/hd-dvd-turns- ... r-goodnessDidn't seem to help though.

I think MUSE Hi-Vision Laserdisc (which to those who don't know is bascially HD LD) was more or less the equivalent of 1080i, and was of course long before HDMI. D-Theater could provide content in 720p and 1080i, and I think the very last D-VHS player made actually did feature a HDMI port.
