That is good to know as I have a copy. It is the Pioneer Special Edition with AC-3 soundtrack. I will put the LD's on my list to watch.

I saw a wonderful movie last night, one the best ever made, Donnie Brasco. It has always been one of my favourite movies. Al Pacino is absolutely perfect in it.
it is a perfect movie. The acting, the score, story etc. Now compare this to a totally overrated piece of junk like American Hustle which is total garbage compared
to Donnie Brasco but got 10 !! oscar nominations.

They don't make movies like that anymore :( I watched it on Netflix btw, for the first time in HD. I never bought the LD as the US release is a known DADC USA rotter.
Neither the US nor the Japan LD has AC3 audio which is a shame.

There have not been many new movies in the last years that I found nearly as entertaining as Donnie Brasco. However I saw another movie last week called Silence about
Jesuit missionaries in 17th century Japan. What a great movie !!! This is the first new movie in a long long time that I really thought was fantastic. I cannot believe it only
got one oscar nomination !!! I guess the general crowd preferes feel good movies such as LaLaLand, not pieces of art like Silence.

Btw, I have also seen Moonlight. Now that one is a good movie, too. Not as good as Silence but I think that Mahershala Ali really deserved the oscar for his role in it.
Hacksaw Ridge was a good movie, too, and had the same lead actor as Silence.

Interesting comparison to American Hustle - in Donnie Brasco there is a reference to ABSCAM which is what American Hustle is loosely based on.

Where do Goodfellas, Casino, and the Godfather films fall into your ranking?

Yes, you are quite about the reference to ABSCAM !

Casino is an absolutely amazing film and so is Goodfellas. Casino has numerous funny moments in it, yet it is a very tragic story at the same time. It is superior to American
Hustle on so many levels, too.

Godfather is a genuine classic and will remain so for centuries to come unlike American Hustler which I am sure will be forgotten by future generations
because it simply isn't that memorable. Its current imdb rating is at 7.3 which clearly shows that it doesn't even come to classics such as Donnie Brasco or Casino which
is a strong 8.2. Plus, American Hustle has Bradley Cooper in it and I simply think he is an extremely overrated actor and so is Jennifer Lawrence.

Carlito's Way is a fantastic movie, too, in so many many ways. I would love to have the dts LD. I am sure it sounds great. In my opinion, it is one of the few good movies on LD
that were blessed with a dts soundtrack. A lot of the dts discs are quite garbage such as Flubber, for instance.

Been watching a little bit of Young Indiana Jones Chronicles (1992) (Uncut) [PCLP-00418]. Fairly entertaining stuff, at least for me. However, I discovered my box set is missing disc 7. This set isn't exactly cheap either, so a bit bummed to discover that. Hopefully I can track another down and replace the missing disc. So I'm missing a couple of episodes from the series at the moment.

Hopefully a box set in poor condition isn't too expensive. I most likely need to take the disc from another box set when I find one.

The Longest day. 1021-80 Nice transfer imho, letterbox is raised to allow subtitles underneath, awkward side breaks to keep it to 3 sides. Sound was not very dynamic, again imho, having not seen it in a cinema.

1492: Conquest of Paradise (1992) [LV 15184-2WS]

New arrival on laserdisc "1492" cheap buy for £3.99 condition is free laser-rot.

Picture is fair to say nice laserdisc transfer quality.
Sound is nicely atmospheric on the ships crossing the oceans to new world.
Vangelis score has nice classical operatically tone that fits the film nicely.

Cover would have been nicer in a gatefold.

You DON'T need to see Spawn then. It makes Flubber seem a theatrical work of art!

I do wish those responsible for the decision making back in the day more carefully chose which titles would most benefit from a DTS LD soundtrack. But I guess the commercial reality was just to get it on as many as you could....

BTW Casino had a DTS release too!

It was just the times. Most of the movies from the first few years of DTS kinda sucked in general and after that LD died.

Plus the fact that DTS discs became non backwards compatible so far as the digital tracks are concerned was a difficulty too? AC3 had the 'simpletons' advantage of preserving the digital tracks (though not the analogue but who cared at that point?), disadvantage being you needed a de-modulator or amp with one built in.

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991) [14000]

Arrived today on laserdisc in w/s 1.75:1 / Dolby Stereo

Opening side 1 chapter 1 music video of the hit summer song, (Bryan Adams) "Everything I Do I do it for you" while it plays on the end credits as theatrical seen white credits against black background. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGoWtY_h4xo

Picture not bad for laserdisc pressing with opening set in dark shadows and light outdoor scenes is reasonable detailed with nice colours with no tiny soft fraction of visible edge enhancement EE is rarely visible and looks DNR free digital noise reduction.

No signs of crosstalk or laser-rot.

Late Alan Rickmanm character "Sheriff of Nottingham" is diabolically devilishly evil.

Dialogue sounds distant but clearly intelligible sound effects are punchy Michael Kamen music score is brassy and exciting with a sweet top end that isn't too harsh.

Disc 2, side 3, chapter 7, 28.24s Robin saving the little John's boy and others from the sheriff of nottingham's hanging. The score plays dramatically without being overpowering while the bow string pulls back and tightens with the release of the arrow flying though the air to splitting the rope is punchy on sub bass extension.

Tried scene twice once with Dolby Stereo the other with Dolby Stereo SR SRA5 cat-280T SR cards.

Most recent watch list (links are laserdisc, the others blu-ray):

Creed - I was pleasantly surprised with this one considering how bad the previous Rocky movie was.

Casablanca #73A (1942) [CC1287L] - A great classic that everybody should watch at least once.

The Hateful Eight - If you like Tarantino movies you definitely should watch this.

Victor Frankenstein - A mediocre re-imagining of the story.

The Revenant - A very good movie, definitely recommended.

Guardians of the Galaxy - A very fun space-romp.

The Big Short - An interesting movie about the housing bubble of the 2000's.

Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens - Ah,... love star wars, I was not super-impressed with the story. Do we really need a 3rd Death Star?

The Immortals - Fun movie, think 300.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 - Not a fan of this movie series, or this movie. I would skip it.

The Pricness Bride - A great classic that all should see.

Spectre - One of the better Bonds in my opinion.

Commando (1985) [1484-80] - Classic 80's Schwarzenegger... what more can anybody want?

Jane Got a Gun - So so movie with Natalie Portman.

Gods of Egypt - Terrible plot, not so great special effects... but I actually liked it and thought it was a lot of fun.

Pawn Sacrifice - The story of chess legend Bobby Fischer. I wasn't too impressed.

Zoolander 2 - A huge let down from the original. This one is a skip.

See No Evil, Hear No Evil (1989) [70226] - Classic comedy with Richard Prior and Gene Wilder. Some of their best work. Highly recommended.

The Avengers - Big budget fun action film.

Deadpool - I was impressed with this one. Still big budget fluff, but rather fun.

Race - A Jesse Owens biopic. Good if you like history.

The Brothers Grimsby - Not very funny comedy. Probably a skip.

Clash of the Titans - Cheesy remake of the original. Still kind of fun.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 - Another big sequel let down. Nothing really funny and most of the jokes are just recycled from the first movie (which was great).

Eddie the Eagle - I really like this "never give up" movies. I recommend it.

Raiders of the Lost Ark - A classic, if you have never seen this, drop what you are doing and watch this right this minute.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows - I really enjoyed this sequel. Perhaps my favorite of the series.

Midnight Special - Interesting supernatural thriller. I would recommend it.

Eye in the Sky - A interesting political commentary on the use of drones and collateral damage.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice - An ok sequel. I whish wonder women was given more screen time.

Green Room - This movie had really good reviews but for some reason I didn't like it. Maybe seeing Captain Picard as a racist just doesn't do it for me.

Elvis and Nixon - This was an interesting historical film. I would recommend it.

High-Rise - Didn't get this one at all and I like weird movies.

Ratchet & Clank - I've played the games, felt the movie was not all that great unfortunately.

The Huntsman: Winter's War - A rather poor sequel,... not that the first one was that good.

The Neon Demon - I really like the director. If you liked the movie Drive then definitely check this out.

Captain America: Civil War - Pretty good sequal.

A Hologram for the King - Almost everything with Tom Hanks is good and this was an interesting film. I would recommend a viewing.

Born to Be Blue - A Chet Baker biopic. If you like jazz, then check this out.

The Jungle Book - Fairly good modern take on the Disney classic.

The Lobster - This movie had great reviews but I did not enjoy it at all. I guess it's too "artsy" for me.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954) [1587 CS] - Wonderful classic. Definitely worth a watch if you have never seen it.

Warcraft - So so action movie.

Star Trek Beyond - I know it under-performed at the box office but I thought it was a pretty good sci-fi action movie.

Innocent Man, An (1989) [910 AS] - A late 80's Tom Selleck movie... what else is there to say.

The Witch - I really liked this movie. Great horror and suspense.

X-Men: Apocalypse - Another big budget action movie. If you like the series, then definitely worth a watch.

Golden Child, The (1986) [LV1930] - Classic Eddie Murphy.

Independence Day: Resurgence - Another terrible sequal. Skip.

Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985) [ID6119IV] - A pretty good action sequel to the first Rambo. I recommend a watch.

Tango & Cash (1989) [11951] - Another 80's Stallone action movie. Mindless but fun.

The Legend of Tarzan - I wasn't that impressed but if you want to see a "re-imagining" of Tarzan, check it out.

See No Evil, Hear No Evil (1989) [70226] - see my comments above about this one.

Swiss Army Man - I really enjoyed this one. Very strange and unusual.

Central Intelligence - Mediocre action comedy with the Rock.

10 Cloverfield Lane - This one is very good. John Goodman gives a great performance.

Finding Dory - Not very impressed with this sequel.

Suicide Squad - A massive let down. Great characters and a horrendous story that makes you not care about any of them.

Captain Fantastic - Viggo Mortensen is really good in this one. Recommended.

Kubo and the Two Strings - A pretty good animated film.

The Nice Guys - Pretty good LA private eye story.

Alice Through the Looking Glass - Absolute garbage.

Inferno - So so sequel. The last one in the series was better.

Inside Out - Fun animated film.

The Accountant - Really good Ben Affleck movie. I would recommended.

Sully - Great story with Tom Hanks. And it's based on a true story.

The Magnificent Seven - Good western with an all star cast.

Hacksaw Ridge - Great WWII biopic. I would recommended.

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back - Underwhelming installment in the series.

Masterminds - Had some funny moments but overall was a dud.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - Probably the favorite in the series. I highly recommend it.

Passengers - I really like the design and styling of this futuristic movie.

War Dogs - Entertaining comedy based (very lousy) on real world events.

Beverly Hills Cop III (1994) [LV32219-WS] - Fun Eddie Murphy movie (although the worst of the 3).

Beverly Hills Cop (1984) [LV 1134-WS] - Classic Eddie Murphy. Definitely worth a watch.

Hell or High Water - Very good acting by both Chris Pine and Jeff Bridges. Recommended.

Last Boy Scout, The (1991) [12217] - Cheesy early 90's crime/action movie with Bruce Willis and Damon Wayans.
