Aside from the "Episode IV" crawl, the pan-and-scan, and the slightly faster speed to compress time, they should be pretty close to the original. Thanks, good to know. I have 4, 5, and 6 on LD too ;but, don't ask me which versions they are. (I am too lazy to drag them out of their hiding places to find out. It is not a priority for me at this moment.)

There aren't any perfect transfers of the UOT that exist. From dirty prints, to shrinking ratios, from four-eyed troopers to breaking glass, from hodgepodge Frankensteins to lower-generation scans. It's quite an odyssey to find the one that suits you. What would have been the best UOT ANH would be the 1992 Technidisc pressing... if it had been pressed by a competent company. That had a master just before the THX DNRing.

My favorite version of Star Wars on laserdisc is the old P&S edition (CAV version). I know P&S is not the ideal way to watch Star Wars, but the vertical resolution is really quite good... and there's no flickering star fields or DVNR! The nostalgia factor is also quite high for me on this one as it reminds me of the version I taped off TV in the early '80s! If I had to pick a favorite widescreen version on laserdisc, I think I'd have to go with the FOX Technidisc pressing. It's not perfect, but it has least number if issues for me (no DVNR and no shrinking aspect ratio)... and the colors look perfect to me! Although, If the JSC didn't have the picture shifted up with giant Japanese subtitles, it might be the winner... but those two details are a deal breaker for me. Watching the JSC just hurts my head. I should really sell my copy to someone who would appreciate it.

I'll have to seek out the P&S CAV as I too am fond of the full frame when viewing LD's, thanks.

You can get the shape of the aspect ratio to look just about perfect doing this.

Unfortunately there still wouldn't be any English subtitles for Greedo though... which is still a bit of a deal breaker for me. But if I do find myself needing a new TV setup, I might look for one that can do that! Sounds handy in general!
